What better way to enjoy an evening at home than by putting on a whodunnit<\/a> and convincing yourself you know who the killer is only to discover you’ve got it all completely wrong? From cosy crime dramas to murder mysteries of the darker kind, we\u2019ve dug out the underrated whodunnit series that have probably passed you by – and we think one is even better than our beloved Unforgotten.<\/p>\n

To kick us off, we’ve got a Harlan Coben<\/a> that deserves far more praise than it got, a series in which Stephen Graham is the all-important investigating officer notable Stephen Graham plus a murder mystery set on board a luxury Mediterranean cruise ship. So, get your thinking caps on as these are the 7 underrated whodunnit series to watch now on ITV, Netflix, the BBC and more.

Harlan Coben\u2019s Stay Close explores how easily the past collides with the present for three people hiding dark secrets from their loved ones. Firstly, there’s working mum, Megan (Cush Jumbo), who hides a stripper past, which she’s forced to confront when someone from her previous life reappears. Then there’s Ray (Richard Armitage), a documentary photographer turned paparazzo who’s haunted by the vanishing of his fianc\u00e9e. And, finally, there’s Broome (James Nesbitt), a brooding detective struggling to give up on a missing person\u2019s cold case. Unsurprisingly, things quickly unravel for those involved. Marcella\"person<\/p>\n

There are some pretty dark themes in Marcella but that doesn’t mean it’s not well worth a watch. The gritty whodunnit stars Anna Friel as London detective, Marcella Backland, who returns to work after an 11-year absence. She finds herself drawn back to police work following the return of the Grove Park Killer, which was her final case before she left to start a family. Now, Marcella’s husband is leaving her and her career is going to keep her pretty busy. A series that might even be better than Unforgotten. All three series are available to watch now on ITVX.<\/a><\/p>\n

White House Farm\"white<\/p>\n

A Stephen Graham<\/a> series that a lot of people still haven’t heard of, White House Farm is based on the real-life murders of five family members at a farmhouse in Essex in 1985. The series follows the investigation and initial suspicion around Sheila Caffell (Cressida Bonas) before the conviction of her brother Jeremy Bamber (Freddie Fox), who still maintains his innocence four decades later. Graham takes on the role of DCI Taff Jones, who at first believes the case to be straightforward before the disturbing truths come to light about what happened on that harrowing night. Moonflower Murders\"tx<\/p>\n

Moonflower Murders is true gem of a series, largely thanks to the fact it stars Lesley Manville<\/a> as lead character Susan Ryeland and has Anthony Horowitz’s popular novel as its source material. Susan is a former book editor whose idyllic life in Crete is disturbed by the shadow of a murder committed at a British country hotel eight years earlier. Cecily Treherne, the young woman who helped run the hotel, has disappeared – but can Susan find her? Moonflower Murders is available on BBC iPlayer<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This brilliant comedy-mystery follows John “Ludwig” Taylor, whose twin brother James mysteriously disappears. James happens to be a DCI leading a major crimes team in Cambridge. So, what better way to find James than for John to take on his identity? Ludwig is used to a quiet life away from the outside world, so we watch as he attempts to crack the biggest mystery of his life. It also helps that Anna Maxwell Martin gives an impeccable performance as James\u2019s wife, Lucy Betts-Taylor. Available to watch now on BBC iPlayer.<\/a><\/p>\n

Name a better setting for a whodunnit than a luxury Mediterranean cruise ship. Death and Other Details introduces us to sharp-witted Imogene Scott (Violett Beane), the prime suspect in a \u201clocked room\u201d murder case after a rich investor named Keith Trubitsky (Michael Gladis) is killed on the ship. To prove her innocence, she joins forces with Rufus Cotesworth (Mandy Patinkin), known as the \u201cworld\u2019s greatest detective\u201d, to solve the crime – despite having a rather complicated past with him. Expect plenty of mysterious flashbacks, shock connections and many dark secrets. Available to watch now on Disney+<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Sister Boniface Mysteries\"sister<\/p>\n

A spin-off of the classic Father Brown series, Sister Boniface Mysteries takes us to 1960s England and the fictional village of Great Slaughter, where titular nun Sister Boniface (Lorna Watson) moonlights as the police department\u2019s scientific adviser thanks to her PhD in forensic science. Sister Boniface joins forces with DI Sam Gillespie (Max Brown), DS Felix Livingstone (Jerry Iwu), and WPC Peggy Button (Ami Metcalf) to solve the fictional Cotswold village\u2019s baffling mysteries. She also rides a Vespa, makes her own wine and is just an all-round excellent central character. Available to watch now on U<\/a>.
