Met \u00c9ireann has taken the unusual step of issuing a rare ‘double’ weather<\/a> warning ahead of an eight-hour period of turbulent conditions.<\/p>\n While weather alerts <\/a>are normally issued for a single hazard, the national forecaster<\/a> has combined warnings for both wind and rain in what it describes as a ‘two part event’, as severe weather is set to batter parts of the country this afternoon.<\/p>\n The Status Yellow alert applies to both Cork and Kerry from 12 noon until 8pm. It warns: “Very strong and gusty southwesterly winds, along with squally heavy showers or longer spells of rain and a chance of hail and thunder.”<\/p>\n Residents in the affected counties are being advised to exercise caution, with potential consequences including challenging travel conditions, localised flooding, fallen trees and branches, and loose objects being displaced by strong winds.<\/p>\n A separate Status Yellow warning for wind remains in effect for Donegal, Galway, Mayo and Sligo until 2pm. Met \u00c9ireann stated: “Very strong and gusty south to southwest winds could potentially lead to difficult travelling conditions, some fallen trees and branches and loose objects being displaced.”<\/p>\n Meanwhile, conditions across the country will continue to be changeable, with periods of rainfall and powerful winds sweeping through. Today’s general outlook states: “Cold but bright and sunny further east this morning, but remaining cloudy elsewhere. Cloud will continue to build with scattered showers across the western half of the country through the day, with just isolated showers further east.<\/p>\n Showers may be heavy at times with the chance of hail and thunder possible. Rather windy too with strong and gusty southwesterly winds, particularly strong about Atlantic coasts. Highest temperatures of 7C to 11C”, reports the Irish Mirror<\/a>.<\/p>\n “Scattered showers will continue to feed in from the west overnight, with some heavier falls to the northwest. Clear spells will develop at times too with showers easing over eastern parts towards morning. Cool and breezy with lowest temperatures of 4C to7C and moderate to fresh south-west winds, strong and gusty on coasts.”<\/p>\n Beyond that, the turbulent and windy conditions show no signs of letting up.<\/p>\n Met \u00c9ireann stated: “Another breezy and bright day Sunday with scattered showers gradually becoming more isolated by the afternoon. Plenty of sunny breaks too, the best of which will be in the south and southeast. Highest temperatures of 8C to 11C in moderate to fresh west to south-west winds, strong and gusty along coasts.<\/p>\n “Scattered cloud and isolated showers gradually clearing Sunday night as southwesterly winds ease overnight too. Lowest temperatures of -1C to 3C with some frost and icy patches possible.<\/p>\n “After a mostly dry and bright start Monday, showers will extend from the west. The showers will retreat northwards through the evening with drier conditions developing in southern parts. Highest temperatures of 9C to 11C in light southerly winds.<\/p>\n “Any remaining showers will quickly clear from northern areas Monday night with long clear spells developing. Lowest temperatures of 1C to 5C in light southerly winds.<\/p>\n “After a bright and dry start Tuesday, cloud and rain will move over from the southwest. Scattered showers will follow as moderate to fresh southeasterly winds turn southerly. Highest temperatures of 9C to 12C.<\/p>\n “Quite unsettled then for Tuesday evening with overcast conditions and scattered showers becoming more widespread later in the night. Southerly breezes and rather mild overnight too with lowest temperatures of 7C to 10C.<\/p>\n “Current indications are for the unsettled pattern of weather to remain with scattered blustery showers, possibly heavy at times in the south and west.
