Turnstile<\/a> kicked off their Coachella<\/a> set by addressing news that their former guitarist Brady Ebert hit singer Brendan Yates\u2019 father with his car.<\/p>\n

Earlier this month, reports emerged that Ebert, who parted ways with Turnstile in 2022, had been arrested for attempted second-degree murder and first-degree assault<\/a>, and it later transpired that Ebert was said to have run over vocalist Yates\u2019 father, William, with his car.<\/p>\n

According to The Baltimore Banner,\u00a0<\/a>Ebert had allegedly driven up to the house, fired his horn and cursed at William before driving off. Yates then accused Ebert of returning to the house and intentionally hitting his father with his car. Ebert then allegedly returned once again to tell William he \u201cdeserved it\u201d before first responders arrived.<\/p>\n

Turnstile later confirmed that Ebert <\/a>had caused \u201csevere physical trauma\u201d by running over William, who underwent surgery and was \u201choping for the best possible outcome in his recovery\u201d.<\/p>\n

Seemingly addressing this, the band opened their set at Coachella on Friday night (April 10) with a pre-recorded video message from William Yates. \u201cI\u2019m Bill Yates, I\u2019m the proud father of Brendan \u2014 they\u2019re all sons of mine,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019ve been practising in the house for 13 years. Just recently, they vacated the basement. Finally, after a dozen years. The larger the venue, the better. They just enjoy the energy. All the fans out there: we love you, and Turnstile loves you. Enjoy the ride!\u201d<\/p>\n

Though the video appeared to have been filmed before the incident, and while Turnstile did not address the news directly, its inclusion felt highly intentional. The move to include it also drew praise from fans, with one writing<\/a>: \u201cVery heartfelt and smart way for them to address the elephant in the room before getting on with the show.\u201d<\/p>\n

Recently, The Baltimore Banner<\/a> revealed that Ebert had told a district court commissioner that the alleged incident was \u201cpure self-defence\u201d, further claiming that he \u201cwas straight-up attacked\u201d. He also reportedly told the commissioner that CCTV footage would contradict police accounts of the incident.<\/p>\n

Since leaving Turnstile, Ebert\u00a0founded a new band in 2025 called The S.E.T<\/a>\u00a0(or \u2018The Self Evident Truth\u2019).<\/p>\n

However, Ebert was\u00a0kicked out of The S.E.T in February<\/a>\u00a0after accusing Turnstile of misusing funds from a benefit gig. He also claimed Turnstile were \u201cpandering to their audience\u201d (per\u00a0Vice<\/a>) when the band posted a graphic reading \u201cabolish ICE\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cBrady is no longer a member of THE S.E.T,\u201d the band wrote online, just days before the release of their debut EP. \u201cWe will not stand by his ridiculous comments and behaviour toward the members of our band and our community\u201d.<\/p>\n

Ebert\u2019s other former band, Experience, have confirmed they will release their debut EP<\/a>\u00a0with Ebert\u2019s contributions intact, calling his attempted murder case \u201cserious and deeply upsetting\u201d.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere, Turnstile will soon play\u00a0a UK-exclusive headline show at The Piece Hall in Halifax<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0open for Tyler, The Creator at London\u2019s All Points East<\/a>.<\/p>\n
