{"id":394339,"date":"2026-04-12T06:29:10","date_gmt":"2026-04-12T06:29:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/394339\/"},"modified":"2026-04-12T06:29:10","modified_gmt":"2026-04-12T06:29:10","slug":"toulon-beat-glasgow-to-set-up-semi-final-against-leinster-or-sale","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/394339\/","title":{"rendered":"Toulon beat Glasgow to set up semi-final against Leinster or Sale"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FRANCE WING GAEL Drean scored two first-half tries as three-time champions Toulon booked their place in the semi-finals of this year\u2019s Champions Cup with a nerve-wracking 22-19 win over Glasgow Warriors at the Scotstoun Stadium on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The Top 14 side will now face either Leinster or English side Sale who play in Dublin this evening.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It is the first time Toulon reached the final four since they won the last of their three successive titles in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s just pure joy,\u201d said Toulon flanker Charles Ollivon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe haven\u2019t achieved anything yet but it\u2019s great for everyone, it rewards a lot of effort. We have been through some tough patches this season, today we\u2019re here, we have to keep going.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019d kind of lost our smiles but today we\u2019re back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But it was heartbreak for URC leaders Glasgow who were vying to reach the semi-finals for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>Playing with the wind at their backs, the Warriors were quickly on the attack, collecting their first try after nine minutes when a line-out throw to the tail was fed back for centre Stafford McDowall to crash over.<\/p>\n<p>Toulon, however, struck straight back when Drean, who made a try-scoring debut for France during the Six Nations, went in for the first of his tries.<\/p>\n<p>Warriors hit the front again just after Toulon flanker Junior Kpoku was sent to the bin after 20 minutes.\u00a0McDowall exploited the extra space out wide by spinning a long pass that put wing Ollie Smith away for the score.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\" xml:lang=\"en\">Toulon&#8217;s Zach Mercer speaks about the motivation that helped his side to victory over Glasgow Warriors \ud83d\udd34\u26ab<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think it was everyone doubting us before we came here&#8221; \ud83d\udde3\ufe0f<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/InvestecChampionsCup?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">#InvestecChampionsCup<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/1h6gDtv05p\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/1h6gDtv05p<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Premier Sports (@PremSportsTV) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PremSportsTV\/status\/2042997096647688420?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">April 11, 2026<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>Toulon bounced back again with two tries in the space of seven minutes.
