{"id":394834,"date":"2026-04-12T14:25:11","date_gmt":"2026-04-12T14:25:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/394834\/"},"modified":"2026-04-12T14:25:11","modified_gmt":"2026-04-12T14:25:11","slug":"she-was-very-emotional-jp-mcmanus-pays-touching-tribute-to-wife-family-and-limerick-stud-farm-staff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/394834\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;She was very emotional&#8217;: JP McManus pays touching tribute to wife, family and Limerick stud farm staff"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THERE will be few tears shed, said an emotional JP McManus after his horse I Am Maximus once again claimed the Grand National title it won two years ago.<\/p>\n<p>Interviewer Matt Chapman, of ITV Racing, asked the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/limerickleader.ie\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Limerick<\/a> businessman \u201cwhat does this mean?\u201d considering he has won everything in the world of National Hunt racing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;m here with nine grandchildren, all my family. The lads back home played such a big part in it on the farm &#8211; it&#8217;ll mean a lot to so many. There will be a few tears shed along the way. I saw Noreen (Mr McManus\u2019 wife) there and she was very emotional about it,\u201d said Mr McManus, who paused during the touching moment on television.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Chapman wished Noreen and all the connections the best for the future.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThanks Matt and thanks to everybody for their warm wishes and applause. It&#8217;s a very, very special day,\u201d said Mr McManus.<\/p>\n<p>READ NEXT:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/news\/horse-racing\/2059493\/historic-fourth-grand-national-win-for-jp-mcmanus-as-i-am-maximus-claims-title.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Historic fourth Grand National win for JP McManus as I Am Maximus claims title<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Earlier in the interview, the proud Limerick man said there is a bit of planning that goes into it and everything points towards the Grand National.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn&#8217;t but thankfully it all came together this time,\u201d said Mr McManus.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/WhatsApp_Image_2026-04-12_at_11.48.51-1775993553951.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Mr Chapman said Willie Mullins, the trainer of I Am Maximus, said prior to race that of all his horses the eventual winner was the \u201cclass horse\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI suppose he carried the most weight. He managed to win. He got a great ride from Paul (Townend). He waited for the horse and I think it was an outstanding ride.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd what can I say about Willie? We forgot about the Gold Cup. He was entered in it, it was a temptation, but we said, let&#8217;s try and win the national because he&#8217;s a real national type. He\u2019s just made for it. He gets away with things at the fences that he might not get away with at Cheltenham. He just loves it around here (Aintree) and Paul knows the horse so well.
