Fans have questioned the tone of the upcoming third season of Euphoria <\/a>after a new teaser trailer showed Sydney Sweeney<\/a>\u2018s Cassie in a series of highly sexualised \u201chumiliating\u201d outfits.<\/p>\n

While the first season of the hit HBO<\/a> show was widely praised for its subversive take on the conventional teen high-school drama, many of the reviews of the newest season \u2013 which features a five-year time jump from the last \u2013 have questioned its sudden emphasis on sex work, with central storylines revolving around strip clubs, sugar babies and OnlyFans.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s the latter that has shocked fans, after a new trailer was shared ahead of tonight\u2019s (April 12) premiere, in which Sweeney is dressed as a baby, with pigtails and a dummy in her mouth, seemingly shooting explicit content.<\/p>\n

This followed previous clips that saw her posing as a dog on a leash, another point of contention for fans and critics, many of whom have argued it\u2019s an extension of the hyper-sexualisation of Sweeney, who had previously asked show creator Sam Levison to cut nude scenes from season two<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cNothing about this is even remotely amusing or entertaining enough to watch considering the current political\/social climate that has forever sexualized babies,\u201d wrote one X user, while others reasoned her arc was meant to be a \u201ccautionary tale\u201d and did not endorse her actions.<\/p>\n

The extreme tonal shift depicted in the first trailer shared for the show also led some to compare the show to the computer game Grand Theft Auto<\/a>, owing largely to a newfound Western influence that see\u2019s Zendaya\u2019s Rue traverse the desert and get involved in arms dealing.<\/p>\n

During a recent interview, Zendaya that this season may be the last,\u00a0<\/a>which has been heavily rumoured for some time.<\/p>\n

Speaking about her experience on the show in general, she said she was \u201cproud\u201d of what she achieved. \u201cRue taught me so much about life,\u201d she explained. \u201cThat crew has also seen me grow up. I owe so much to that show. Rue taught me so much about empathy and redemption. I\u2019m very grateful for all of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

In other news, the show\u2019s lead composer Labrinth recently lashed out at the show and the wider industry,\u00a0declaring he is \u201cdone\u201d with it all<\/a>, later explaining his departure by saying he will not \u201clet people treat me like shit\u201d<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The season premieres on Sunday (April 12) on HBO Max (plus Sky Atlantic and NOW in the UK), but\u00a0will\u00a0have a special screening<\/a>\u00a0on the same day at\u00a0Coachella<\/a>.<\/p>\n
