Frederique Constant updates the Classic Worldtimer Manufacture with a redesigned dial, case, and movement.
\nThree variations are unveiled as part of Watches and Wonders 2026, with a blue dial on an alligator strap, a navy blue dial on a 5-link steel bracelet, and a diamond-set special edition of 88 pieces.
\nUS$6,195 for the steel versions, and US$9,995 for the diamond-set special edition.<\/p>\n

Frederique Constant\u2019s run in its 38-year history has been impressive. For what is a relatively short period of time within the watch industry, the brand has developed a number of manufacture calibres<\/a>, including a number of old-school complications, such as tourbillon<\/a>, moonphase<\/a>, perpetual calendar, and worldtimer models. The first Frederique Constant Classic Worldtimer Manufacture<\/a> models were released in 2012. Housed in a 42mm stainless steel case, the watches had a modern footprint despite its classical oriented design. Frederique Constant has been updating its Classic Manufacture collection, refining the case and dial designs, and reducing case diameters from 42mm to 39mm and 40mm, depending on the model. With fresh Classic Perpetual Calendar Manufacture<\/a> models released in 2025, it\u2019s the Worldtimer\u2019s turn in 2026. With three new Classic Worldtimer Manufacture models, refinements in the case and dial design address enthusiasts\u2019 wants and desires, and a special model has been developed, playing into recent trends.<\/p>\n

The new Frederique Constant Classic Worldtimer Manufacture models are housed in a newly designed 40mm stainless steel case, measuring 12.53mm thick and with 20mm lugs, putting the new Classic Manufacture Worldtimer within more moderate, albeit modern, dimensions. The dial has also been redesigned, with the big difference from the previous generation being the removal of the date sub-dial at six o\u2019clock. Regardless of one\u2019s opinions on date displays<\/a>, the removal of the date sub-dial does help with the legibility of the world time display, as previous versions had the date display blocking part of the world time outer disc. The world map relief in the centre of the dial remains, as do the luminous hands and applied indices. The dial is covered with an anti-reflective convex sapphire crystal, and the case is water resistant to 50 meters, making the Classic Worldtimer Manufacture a worthy travel companion that belies its dressy appearance.<\/p>\n

The other big update for the new Classic Worldtimer Manufacture is the movement inside. The calibre FC-718 seen in previous versions<\/a> has been updated and lives on as the FC-719. The ability to operate the world time functionality via the crown remains, as does the automatic winding and the 28,800 bph beat rate. The biggest improvement is the increase in power reserve, going from 38 hours in the previous versions to 72 hours<\/a>\u00a0in the new FC-719. This was achieved by utilising a larger mainspring barrel and revised alloy construction for the mainspring. Frederique Constant was able to achieve this while keeping the dimensions of the calibre the same and maintaining the same reliability that Frederique Constant has developed a reputation for. The movement is finished with sunburst C\u00f4tes de Gen\u00e8ve, circular graining, and a gold-toned rotor with snailed and grained finishes.<\/p>\n

Frederique Constant has three models to debut the new Classic Worldtimer Manufacture. The first one is a blue dial with a contrasting blue and light blue outer ring for the 24-hour scale, and a white outer ring for the cities chapter ring. This reference comes with a navy blue alligator strap with ecru stitching, a stainless steel deployant clasp, and quick-release spring bars. The second model has a darker, navy blue dial with a matching city chapter ring and the 24-hour ring in blue and white. This model also comes with a five-link stainless steel bracelet with a butterfly deployant clasp and quick-release spring bars.<\/p>\n

With this redesign, Frederique Constant saw fit to release a special edition that seems very on trend with the more recent proliferation of gem-set models<\/a>. The 88-piece limited edition Classic Worldtimer Manufacture features 70 diamonds set into the bezel, along with 12 diamond indices for the hour markers. With a light blue dial, white and light blue 24-hour ring, and white city chapter ring, this model comes with both a light blue and navy blue alligator strap.<\/p>\n

Even though small watches remain in flux, I think it is safe to say that large, bordering on oversized dress watches, are out of favour currently. Additionally, modern calibres with longer power reserves have become favourites amongst collectors, especially as the collections grow, as they minimise the amount of resetting that takes place when one reaches into their watch box. The reduction in size from 42mm to 40mm was very welcome with the brand\u2019s Classic Manufacture Perpetual Calendar, and it is equally welcome on the Worldtimer. Even though I appreciate a good date window, the removal of the date display does make reading the world time functions much easier. I also think that world time watches are most applicable when at home, corresponding with the world from your desk. A true GMT with a date<\/a> is what I want when travelling to far-flung time zones (especially when crossing the date line). With that in mind, the removal of the date is not sorely missed.<\/p>\n
