Luis Enrique is wary of Paris Saint-Germain falling into a “trap” against Liverpool in the return leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
PSG bossed the first encounter at the Parc des Princes, with Liverpool failing to muster a shot on target as Desire Doue and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia gave the defending champions a 2-0 victory.<\/p>\n
Liverpool, though, have a reputation for staging famous comebacks so, despite the gulf in class between the sides last week, Luis Enrique urged his players not to take the Reds lightly.<\/p>\n
“You need to be really careful, there could be pitfalls and it could be a trap,” he said.<\/p>\n
“Everyone says, ‘you won (the first leg) easily and you were much better than opposition’. It might be the case but things can change so quickly in a football match.<\/p>\n
“You need to be careful, take care of the details, you need to be ready because you can concede a goal in the first half and the game is still open.<\/p>\n
“We’ll go out there to try and win the game, like we’ve always done. They’ll come out and try to score but I need to ensure my team know we will encounter difficulties in this game, it won’t be easy.<\/p>\n
“It’s still going to be a really tight game, I think, despite what has happened thus far in the tie.”<\/p>\n
PSG will also have to contend with a raucous Anfield crowd but Luis Enrique insisted they are up for the challenge.<\/p>\n
“We know how difficult it is to play in a stadium like Anfield but it’s also a source of motivation because we want to play our game, we want to overcome them and win the game,” Luis Enrique added.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile Arne Slot says his Liverpool side can be nothing short of “exceptional” if they are to add to the list of magical European nights.<\/p>\n
The Reds have staged several unlikely European comebacks, most recently overturning a 3-0 deficit against Barcelona by winning 4-0 on Merseyside en route to lifting the Champions League trophy in 2019.<\/p>\n
Slot also pointed out that in his 50 home matches in charge, Liverpool have scored two or more goals on 36 occasions, as a reason to believe all is not lost.<\/p>\n
“It felt completely different but the result was (only) 2-0,” Slot said. “We have shown so many times this season in big games we are able to get a great performance.<\/p>\n
“In the home games over the last year-and-a-half, in 36 we have scored two goals or more.<\/p>\n
“We have not played all these games against Paris St Germain, but the Premier League and Champions League opponents we had were very strong.<\/p>\n
“There is a belief we can do special things but we know we need to be very, very, very special. We know we need an exceptional performance, but that’s normal if you’re playing the champions of Europe.”<\/p>\n
