{"id":397323,"date":"2026-04-14T04:02:26","date_gmt":"2026-04-14T04:02:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/397323\/"},"modified":"2026-04-14T04:02:26","modified_gmt":"2026-04-14T04:02:26","slug":"new-oil-discovery-comes-to-light-in-gulf-of-america","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/397323\/","title":{"rendered":"New oil discovery comes to light in Gulf of America"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Houston-headquartered energy player Occidental (Oxy) has unveiled a new oil discovery at a prospect in the Gulf of America (U.S. Gulf of Mexico). <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/oxy-gulf-of-mexicoHeidelberg-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"Oxy\" class=\"wp-image-701263\"  \/>Illustration; Source: Oxy<\/p>\n<p>Occidental has revealed an oil discovery at the Bandit\u00a0prospect in the Gulf of America, about 125 miles south of the Louisiana coast.<\/p>\n<p>The exploration well, located in Green Canyon Block 680, encountered high-quality, full-to-base oil-bearing Miocene sands.<\/p>\n<p>Jeff Simmons, Senior Vice President of Subsurface Technology and Chief Petrotechnical Officer, commented: \u201cOccidental is focused on strengthening our Gulf of America portfolio.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe believe this discovery demonstrates the continued importance of the Gulf of America as a strategic source of reliable domestic oil supply that supports long-term energy security.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bandit is operated by Occidental, which holds a 45.375% working interest, and includes co-owners, Chevron U.S.A. Inc.
