Mark Wahlberg<\/a> hasn\u2019t lived in Boston for decades, but the Dorchester native still knows a Bostonian when he sees one.<\/p>\n

The actor visited \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live!\u201d on Monday to discuss his upcoming movie \u201cBalls Up,\u201d<\/a> the years of effort he put into getting rid of his Boston accent, and to play a game of \u201cWheah Ya Frahm?\u201d with the late-night host.<\/p>\n

Kimmel surprised Wahlberg by playing a clip from the MTV\u2019s 1991 \u201cRock N\u2019 Jock B-Ball Jam,\u201d<\/a> in which celebrities like Wahlberg and his brother Donnie played with NBA stars like Magic Johnson and Reggie Miller.<\/p>\n

After watching a clip of Donnie gassing his brother\u2019s dunking ability up for the audience, Wahlberg told Kimmel that there was \u201cnothing worse than hearing that accent.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI spent a good long time trying to get rid of the Boston accent,\u201d Wahlberg said. \u201cOnly to then go do movies like \u2018The Fighter,\u2019 \u2018[The] Perfect Storm,\u2019 \u2018The Departed,\u2019 all these movies.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wahlberg then recalled a story about him and Kimmel frenemy Matt Damon<\/a> on the set of \u201cThe Departed.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe and I were the only ones actually from Boston, but we were kind of looking at each other like, \u2018I think people are going to think that we have the fake Boston accents,\u2019 and we\u2019re going to stick out like a sore thumb,\u201d said Wahlberg.<\/p>\n

With that, Kimmel and Wahlberg launched into a game of \u201cWheah Ya Frahm?\u201d, in which Wahlberg had to guess which one of three people on the streets of Los Angeles were originally from the Boston area without hearing them speak.<\/p>\n

Wahlberg breezed through the first two rounds, sussing out the Boston-area native by asking if anyone had gotten drunk on a duck boat and asking which color of clam chowder, white or red, they preferred. (The second round was especially easy, given that the man, originally from East Boston, was wearing a Dunkin\u2019 sweatsuit<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The third round was tougher, with two people giving the \u201ccorrect\u201d answer to Wahlberg\u2019s questions about preferring Larry Bird over Michael Jordan, whether they\u2019ve had a fist fight with a relative, and what hand gesture to give to Yankees fans (the middle finger). But in the end, Wahlberg was able to guess that the woman in the lineup was a Bay Stater.<\/p>\n
