A man in his 40s, who was arrested in connection with an investigation into a fatal assault in Co Waterford, has since been charged.<\/p>\n
Emergency services responded to an incident in Cappagh shortly after 6pm on Monday. A man in his 70s was discovered with serious injuries outside a residential property and was later pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n
The deceased has since been named locally as John Cashman.<\/p>\n
The 74-year-old was a native of Cappagh, Dungarvan. Locals said he was \u2018\u2019a pure gentleman and heavily involved in the agricultural community\u2019\u2019.<\/p>\n
The man charged in connection with the fatal assault investigation will appear before Carrick-on-Suir District Court on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
It is believed that he was known to the deceased.<\/p>\n
Cathaoirleach of the Dungarvan\/Lismore District, Cllr Niamh O\u2019Donovan, extended her condolences to all impacted by the incident.<\/p>\n
She said: “Mr Cashman was heavily involved in the agricultural community. He often appeared younger than he was. We had great banter when I was elected in 2024.”<\/p>\n
Garda\u00ed have confirmed that a Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed to lead the case, with an incident room established at Dungarvan Garda Station.<\/p>\n
The Coroner and the Office of the State Pathologist have also been notified.
