Wayne Rooney didn\u2019t hold back in his criticism of Liverpool after their Champions League challenge was ended by Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield.<\/p>\n
The six-time European champions were knocked out by Luis Enrique\u2019s outstanding side for the second straight season having failed to recreate the kind of jaw-dropping turnaround seen against Barcelona in 2019.<\/p>\n
Liverpool were frustrated by well-drilled PSG and had a penalty decision overturned before Dembele took the wind out of their sails and then added late gloss, with their 2-0 win in the rain wrapping up a deserved 4-0 quarter-final triumph.<\/p>\n
Former England and Manchester United striker Rooney has been critical of Liverpool throughout the season and he questioned the approach of Arne Slot’s side once again.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think it\u2019s body language,\u201d Rooney told Amazon Prime. \u201cI said this at the start of the season. The body language of the Liverpool players hasn’t been the same.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey won the league with Arne Slot last season, but the body language looks different now.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou are talking about a rebuild of the champions from last season. They\u2019ve spent an awful lot of money to make the squad better and there have certainly been faults with recruitment.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou shouldn\u2019t be talking about a rebuild when you’ve just won the Premier League. They\u2019ve lost some really good players.\u201d<\/p>\n
Former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler was also critical of Arne Slot\u2019s side, as he suggested their French rivals were comfortable winners over the two legs.<\/p>\n
\u201cPSG showed their quality. I don\u2019t think they were brilliant tonight, but when they needed to up their game, they did it,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n
\u201cLiverpool huffed and puffed. We were still none the wiser in terms of the formation and the tactics, but they put in a better performance because they worked harder.<\/p>\n
\u201cOne of Liverpool\u2019s problems this year is they have tried to build that first XI, but you look at the squad and it’s not there.\u201d<\/p>\n
Fowler went on to suggest Slot\u2019s future as Liverpool manager will be in doubt if they fail to secure a top five finish in the Premier League.<\/p>\n
