Paul Townend treated himself to a shiny new Porsche car after winning the Grand National, the Gold Cup and the Champion Hurdle for the first time in 2024 \u2014 now he can buy himself a second one.<\/p>\n
Last Saturday\u2019s incredible Grand National success<\/a> at Aintree on I Am Maximus saw the Cork<\/a> jockey complete Jump Racing\u2019s Holy Trinity in the same season for the second time in his career.<\/p>\n “I bought the Porsche because growing up I loved speed, I love racing cars. I’m very fortunate because I have been successful.<\/p>\n “I own my dream house. I decided when I won the Grand National and I won the Gold Cup<\/a>, and the Champion Hurdle, I just said let’s get it now while I can and enjoy it,” said Townend in an interview last September.<\/p>\n Indeed he has won the four big prizes in National Hunt racing this season, with his Gold Cup and Champion Hurdle wins on Lossiemouth and Gaelic Warrior flanked by a Queen Mother Champion Chase success on Il Etait Temps.<\/p>\n With the \u20ac3 million Punchestown<\/a> on the horizon, Townend<\/a> looks set to enjoy his best ever season, but just how much has the 35-year-old earned for himself in 2025\/26.<\/p>\n We\u2019ve crunched the numbers on Townend\u2019s glorious year in the saddle and reckon he\u2019s likely to surpass his earnings from the 2024\/25 season, despite the fact that Willie Mullins relinquished his champion trainer\u2019s crown in Britain to Dan Skelton.<\/p>\n We\u2019ve used the criteria that the jockey gets approximately 9 percent of winning prize-money and around 4 percent of the placed prize-money they accumulate.<\/p>\n The riding fee for a senior jump jockey in Ireland is \u20ac282 while in Britain is \u00a3228 and with Townend having ridden in 295 races, his flat fee before any winnings is a gross figure of around \u20ac75,000 at home and \u00a37,300 (\u20ac8,400) in the UK.<\/p>\n He\u2019ll have the usual travel, valet, agent and insurance costs to pay out of that but it\u2019s in the prize-money where Townend has hit the jackpot.<\/p>\n Townend has picked up approximately \u20ac192,000 for himself from his season so far in Ireland between riding fees and his share of prize-money from his 264 rides and 84 winners.<\/p>\n In Britain this season, Townend has only ridden eight winners, but with four of them being the big four in jump racing, the total prize-money he\u2019s won for connections surpasses \u00a32 million and is almost the same as what he\u2019s won at home.<\/p>\n Around \u00a3168,000 (\u20ac193k) of that (along with riding fees) lands in the Middleton man\u2019s account meaning his approximate gross total earnings for the season so far in Ireland and the UK stand at a whopping \u20ac443,000.<\/p>\n In the entire 2024\/25 season he earned just over \u20ac500,000, meaning a good Punchestown with Willie Mullins<\/a> will see Townend smash that total and take his earnings well beyond the \u20ac1 million mark for the past two seasons in total.<\/p>\n He is currently operating at an amazing 31 percent strike rate in Ireland and 26 percent in Britain.<\/p>\n But he does, however, look unlikely to win an eighth Irish champion jockeys title, with Jack Kennedy currently holding a 15 winner lead over his great rival with two weeks of the season to go.<\/p>\n Although with the form Townend is currently in and with the huge Willie Mullins batallion behind him over the five days of Punchestown, it’s not something we can completely rule out.<\/p>\n
