{"id":399068,"date":"2026-04-15T03:46:22","date_gmt":"2026-04-15T03:46:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/399068\/"},"modified":"2026-04-15T03:46:22","modified_gmt":"2026-04-15T03:46:22","slug":"clannad-singer-moya-brennan-dies-aged-73","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/399068\/","title":{"rendered":"Clannad singer Moya Brennan dies aged 73"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Moya Brennan, best known as a founding member of the band Clannad, has died at the age of 73.<\/p>\n<p>A family statement said the singer, harpist and songwriter best known for her work with Clannad, died peacefully, surrounded by loved ones.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Taoiseach Miche\u00e1l Martin has paid tribute to the musician.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">&#8220;Deeply saddened at the passing of Moya Brennan &#8211; an iconic Irish voice. Along with her Clannad bandmates, Moya brought Irish folk music to the international stage. Deepest sympathies to Moya\u2019s family and friends at this difficult time. Ar dheis D\u00e9 go raibh a hanam,&#8221; he wrote.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Sinn F\u00e9in TD Pearse Doherty also paid tribute to Ms Brenann on social media.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">He wrote: \u201cMoya gave so much to Ireland and its people\u201d.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\ud83d\udc94 Very sad to hear of the passing of Moya Brennan.<\/p>\n<p>Moya gave so much to Ireland and its people. Known as the First Lady of Celtic music, her songs and stories shaped so many lives and will always be cherished. <\/p>\n<p>Moya was proud of her roots.
