<\/p>\nThe Six One News co-anchor married his wife Trish seven weeks after becoming RT\u00c9’s London correspondent, and now being back in Dublin he praised for being ‘patient and understanding’<\/p>\n
RT\u00c9 Six One News anchor, Tommy Meskill<\/p>\n
Tommy Meskill<\/a> has praised his wife Trish for being “patient and understanding” amid his busy career as a journalist.<\/p>\n The RT\u00c9 presenter has risen through the ranks at the national broadcaster in recent years from news2day anchor to London Correspondent, to his current role on the Six One News, which he co-hosts with Sharon Tobin<\/a>.<\/p>\n By his side throughout it all has been his wife Trish, whom Tommy married just weeks after landing a role in the UK.<\/p>\n “I was appointed as the London correspondent and seven weeks after that, Trish and I had our wedding in Leitrim,” Tommy said.<\/p>\n The Clare <\/a>native added it was a “chaotic time” as he took on the job just days before a general election.<\/p>\n “It was the first time that I thought I’d bitten off more than I could chew,” he admitted to the RT\u00c9 Guide.<\/p>\n “I got to interview Keir Starmer twice, I got to shout questions at Donald Trump at a press conference when he visited Turnberry and so much else too in that year and a half.<\/p>\n “It was also a very exciting time on the personal front; Trish and I were newlyweds in the Big City and so we will always have nostalgia for London.”<\/p>\n Tommy and Trish moved home from London when he got the Six One gig following David McCullagh’s move to RT\u00c9 Radio 1 <\/a>in the wake of Claire Byrne’s move to Newstalk<\/a>.<\/p>\n The couple are now house hunting and would love to start a family one day.<\/p>\n Anchoring The Six One is a dream come true for Tommy, and Trish knew how important it was for him to take the opportunity.<\/p>\n “I was about to go to the Old Bailey to cover a case when I got the call [with the job offer],” Tommy said.<\/p>\n “I was in the apartment, Trish standing beside me. We had just sold our apartment in Dublin.<\/p>\n “In hindsight, maybe we would have hung back on selling but these are good problems to have.<\/p>\n “And I have a very patient and understanding wife.<\/p>\n “I suppose Trish knew that the Six One was the dream gig for me and there was always the chance it might not happen so when it did, we went for it.”<\/p>\n Tommy has been working in RT\u00c9<\/a> for 10 years now and says starting out in children’s TV was a great help.<\/p>\n “Before I joined news2day I had worked in other radio stations in Dublin and saw myself as a news journalist, so going into children’s news was new to me,” he explained.<\/p>\n “But it was a great learning experience. news2day also sharpened my presenting style because I was quite wooden when I started.”<\/p>\n Want to see more of the stories you love from RSVP<\/a> ?
