Yellowstone boss Taylor Sheridan’s new drama The Madison is nowhere near releasing its second season, but it’s already been renewed by Paramount for a third due to its huge success.<\/p>\n

The network said that the “record-breaking” show, which premiered on 13 March, received 8 million viewers for its debut episode in its first 10 days.<\/p>\n

“The show is Sheridan’s most-watched debut ever and was the #1 original season by views among streaming originals for its first week of release… with nearly 1 billion minutes viewed for its first full week,” Paramount explained.<\/p>\n

With huge numbers like that, it’s no wonder that the show has been given a season 3 renewal without waiting to release season 2.<\/p>\n

Filming has already wrapped on season 2, with the premiere date set to be announced soon.<\/p>\n

The show follows a family that decide to move from New York City to southwest Montana after a devastating tragedy. Thematically, it deals with grief, adjusting to a major change in your life, and the difference between city and rural life.<\/p>\n

Michelle Pfeiffer leads a strong cast that also features Kurt Russell, Matthew Fox, Patrick J Adams, Beau Garrett, and Will Arnett.<\/p>\n

While The Madison did huge viewing figures, its reception is decidedly mixed. On Rotten Tomatoes<\/a> it has a 70% positive score from users, and 64% positive from critics.<\/p>\n

Lots of reviews, good and bad, compared the show to a soap opera, with Common Sense Media<\/a> calling it an “emotionally intense melodrama”.<\/p>\n

“The Madison is Yellowstone but with the pacing and more personal vibe of a show like Virgin River,” wrote Decider<\/a>, while the Daily Telegraph<\/a> called it “the soapiest of Sheridan’s shows to date, it\u2019s agreeable to watch and lovely to look at.”<\/p>\n

“You could call it melodrama, and at times it threatens to go the whole hog and turn into soap,” The Arts Desk<\/a> wrote, “but The Madison does have the gift of watchability. It also delivers a hefty jolt of star power.”<\/p>\n
