Many of Longford’s tourism attractions will feature in the new series of RT\u00c9’s Tracks & Trails which airs this Friday, April 17 at 8.30pm on RT\u00c9 One and RT\u00c9 Player. READ MORE BELOW PHOTO\u00a0<\/p>\n

Broadcaster and RT\u00c9’s Midlands Correspondent\u00a0<\/a>Sin\u00e9ad\u00a0Hussey<\/a>\u00a0joins presenter Doireann N\u00ed Ghlac\u00e1in on a walk along Longford’s scenic greenway from Clondra, leading to the Corlea Trackway Centre with its 2,000 year old road.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n They visit the National Famine Way, marking the trail that tenants evicted from Strokestown Estate in 1847 had to walk, all the way to Dublin, as part of a forced emigration to the US and Canada, many of them perishing along the way.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u00a0\n <\/p>\n

\n They also visit Lime Tree Avenue, which was once part of the Mosstown Estate, built as part of a Famine relief scheme, and in later years,\u00a0Sinead\u00a0says, “used as a place for young couples to court.”\u00a0\n <\/p>\n

Sinead\u00a0has great knowledge of the locality and an interest in walking and the outdoors.\u00a0\n <\/p>\n

\n Speaking in the programme she says: “My job as a regional correspondent can at times be very pressurised, I find it hard to switch off. So I come out to the canal. As you can see today, it’s very quiet, very calm, it’s a place where I can just turn off, whether it’s for a half an hour or an hour, and just get away from the world, it just really grounds me.”\u00a0\n <\/p>\n
