{"id":399905,"date":"2026-04-15T15:10:09","date_gmt":"2026-04-15T15:10:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/399905\/"},"modified":"2026-04-15T15:10:09","modified_gmt":"2026-04-15T15:10:09","slug":"jamie-dornan-to-play-aragorn-in-new-lord-of-the-rings-movie-the-hunt-for-gollum-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/399905\/","title":{"rendered":"Jamie Dornan to play Aragorn in new Lord of The Rings movie, The Hunt for Gollum \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/jamie-dornan\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/jamie-dornan\/\">Jamie Dornan<\/a> is set to play Aragon in the upcoming prequel The Lord of The Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, Warner Bros has announced.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The Northern Irish actor, from Co Down and raised in Belfast, is named in the new casting line-up alongside <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/ian-mckellen\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/ian-mckellen\/\">Ian McKellen<\/a> as Gandalf, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/kate-winslet\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/kate-winslet\/\">Kate Winslet<\/a> as Marigol, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/leo-woodall\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/leo-woodall\/\">Leo Woodall<\/a> as Halvard and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/elijah-wood\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/elijah-wood\/\">Elijah Wood<\/a> as Frodo Baggins.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Andy Serkis, who is directing the film, will play the lead role as Gollum and Sm\u00e9agol.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The recasting was announced during the studio\u2019s presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Tuesday, April 14th. The new film is due to be released in December 2027.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Dornan joins the cast from filming on the soon-to-be-released Netflix crime series The Undertow.
