{"id":400149,"date":"2026-04-15T18:02:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-15T18:02:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/400149\/"},"modified":"2026-04-15T18:02:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-15T18:02:08","slug":"bottles-of-anxiety-medication-xanax-recalled-nationwide-nbc-chicago","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/400149\/","title":{"rendered":"Bottles of anxiety medication Xanax recalled nationwide \u2013 NBC Chicago"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bottles of a popular medication used to treat anxiety and panic disorders are being recalled nationwide, according to a report from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.accessdata.fda.gov\/scripts\/ires\/index.cfm?Product=219233\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.accessdata.fda.gov\/scripts\/ires\/index.cfm?Product=219233\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Food and Drug Administration<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>One lot of Xanax, one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/articles\/PMC5846112\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/articles\/PMC5846112\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">most widely prescribed benzodiazepines<\/a>, was recalled March 17 by pharmaceutical company Viatris because the drug failed to meet dissolution specifications. According to the FDA, the voluntary recall was listed as a &#8220;Class II&#8221; recall, which means temporary, adverse health consequences are possible.<\/p>\n<p>According to health officials, drugs that don&#8217;t meet &#8220;dissolution specifications&#8221; could mean the pills aren&#8217;t as effective, or that they don&#8217;t release the correct dosage. <\/p>\n<p>Lot number 8177156 was recalled, with bottles containing 60, 3mg extended-release tablets. The expiration date for the bottles was Feb. 28, 2027, the FDA said.<\/p>\n<p>The pills were distributed nationwide between Aug. 27, 2024, and May 29, 2025, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pharmacy.ca.gov\/about\/recall_alerts\/031826_viatris.pdf\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.pharmacy.ca.gov\/about\/recall_alerts\/031826_viatris.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">the California State Board of Pharmacy<\/a> said.
