\n\tCharli xcx<\/a> is going full rock \u2018n\u2019 roll for her next album.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn a new cover story with British Vogue<\/a>, the pop singer revealed that she\u2019s ditching the dance beats and Auto-Tune that made her last album, \u201cBrat,\u201d a lime-green phenomenon. Instead, her eighth record \u2014 which she made with \u201cBrat\u201d producers A. G. Cook and Finn Keane \u2014 will be guitar-centric and spotlights Charli\u2019s raw voice. British Vogue describes it as a \u201crock reinvention,\u201d reporting that one of the songs features the lyrics: \u201cI think the dance floor is dead\/ So now we\u2019re making rock music.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cFor me, it\u2019s fun to flip the form,\u201d Charli said of pivoting to rock. \u201cWe know there\u2019s gonna be people who are bothered by it, but that\u2019s fine.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThough the new album still doesn\u2019t have a title or release date, Charli wiped her Instagram over the past few days and changed her profile picture to a grey-ish black color, indicating a new era. After the global success of \u201cBrat,\u201d which lasted well over two years and seems to have finally come to a close with the release of her mockumentary \u201cThe Moment\u201d in January, Charli says she felt the need to get away from dance music.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIf I\u2019d made another album that felt more dance-leaning, it would have felt really hard, really sad,\u201d she told British Vogue, later adding: \u201cWe were doing our version of analogue, which is so silly and funny, but putting it through our lens, and making sure that nothing felt too macho, was important.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tCharli also said she isn\u2019t sure if she\u2019ll go back to performing in arenas after \u201cBrat\u201d led to nearly non-stop touring and festival appearances.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI never thought I\u2019d play arenas in my life, and who knows if I will again,\u201d she said. \u201cMaybe I won\u2019t, but after you\u2019ve done a few, you\u2019re like, \u2018Oh, this place.\u2019 It really happens.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tCharli also has a flourishing acting career, and found herself delving into her passion for cinema at the height of \u201cBrat\u201d mania as a way of escaping. In fact, one song on the album is about acting and how it allows her to feel \u201csomething new and undiscovered and something kinda violent.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cYou\u2019re not thinking one step ahead, or at least I\u2019m not,\u201d she said of acting. \u201cIt\u2019s a very impulsive state to be in. That can be terrifying but it can also unlock this instinct in you, and it\u2019s scary but it\u2019s kind of nice, like, fuck it. And maybe I\u2019ll fall on my face and humiliate myself but maybe I\u2019ll do something really powerful, and if you don\u2019t try, you never know.\u201d<\/p>\n
