Lisa Kudrow and Michael Patrick King have praised Andrew Scott’s role in The Comeback, with King describing the Irish actor as one of the “most amazing” performers on the planet.<\/p>\n
Speaking to RT\u00c9 2FM\u2019s Emma Power, the pair reflected on Scott joining the long-awaited return of the cult comedy.<\/p>\n
Kudrow said: “It was heaven!”<\/p>\n
King added: “When you have almost the most amazing actor on the planet say they would join you for a couple of episodes, there\u2019s nothing bad about that.<\/p>\n
“And then to meet Andrew and have him be even more wonderful than you imagined is great.<\/p>\n
“He adds so much to the show. He has a gravitas that brings a necessary weight to the character he plays. But he\u2019s so playful, too.<\/p>\n
“It\u2019s quite an honour and a validation that he wanted to do it.”<\/p>\n
Elsewhere in the interview, Kudrow reflected on why older shows continue to resonate with younger audiences, saying there may be an “unconscious nostalgia” for in-person connection.<\/p>\n
“I think people really want, and young people have some unconscious nostalgia for connection, like in-person connection. So I think that\u2019s what it offers,” she said.<\/p>\n
King added that it was “an amazing gift” to have worked on a show that still feels important to a different generation, and said The Comeback has built a similar bond with viewers who still want to see Valerie Cherish back on screen.<\/p>\n
Kudrow also teased where audiences will find Valerie in the new season, saying the character is now around a decade older, with the story initially picking up three years earlier during a writers\u2019 strike as she tries her hand at Broadway in Chicago, despite feeling out of place.<\/p>\n
