After eight years at Glamour magazine, Cork woman Samantha Barry has announced she is stepping down as editor-in-chief and leaving parent company Cond\u00e9 Nast<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Barry took to her Instagram<\/a> account to share the news.<\/p>\n

In the post, she said: \u201cAfter eight phenomenal years at Glamour I\u2019m stepping away. <\/p>\n

\u201cAs the title\u2019s business model evolved, I made clear to Anna and leadership at Cond\u00e9 that this was the right moment to leave and pursue new projects,\u201d said Barry, referring to Anna Wintour<\/a>, the former long-time editor of Vogue and chief content officer at Cond\u00e9 Nast who championed the Irish woman\u2019s career.<\/p>\n

She said stepping away was \u201csomething I\u2019ve been thinking about for a while and with changes to our global operations now is the time\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m enormously proud of what we built together and the amazing people that make up the Glamour teams around the world,\u201d she added. <\/p>\n

During her time at Glamour, Barry oversaw a big shift from print to digital publishing for the fashion title, pushing to grow its audience and revenues through social media and other digital platforms.<\/p>\n

She described working alongside Wintour, \u201cwho championed me at every turn\u201d, as \u201cone of the great professional privileges\u201d.<\/p>\n

She said \u201cstorytelling has always been at the heart of my career and ambitions\u201d and she is excited by what comes next.<\/p>\n

Barry held the role at Glamour since 2018 and in 2024 she was appointed as the first global editorial director for Glamour.<\/p>\n

Barry, who hails from Ballincollig, moved to New York in 2014 to work with CNN. She previously worked with RT\u00c9 and the BBC.<\/p>\n

She was headhunted by Wintour for the role at Glamour magazine.<\/p>\n

Barry\u2019s departure comes with other changes at the publishing giant on Thursday including the closure of Self magazine, the health and fitness publication, after nearly 50 years, the New York Times reported.<\/p>\n

Cond\u00e9 Nast chief executive Roger Lynch told employees that the publisher\u2019s overall business was profitable and ended 2025 with revenue growth, adding thatnew changes were aimed at positioning \u201cthe company for continued growth\u201d.<\/p>\n

Lynch said Glamour\u2019s international editions in Germany, Spain and Mexico would close and Wired\u2019s print magazine in Italy will also shut down.<\/p>\n

\u201cTaken together, Wired in Italy, Self and the affected Glamour markets represent a little over 1 per cent of our overall revenue,\u201d Lynch wrote in the memo. <\/p>\n

\u201cThey also remain unprofitable and continuing to operate them in their current form limits our ability to invest in the ideas and areas that will drive future growth,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
