For the past decade or so, she\u2019s been accused of speaking in different pitches and accents, including an apparent \u201cBlaccent<\/a>\u201d at one point during her peak pop-star era.\"\"<\/p>\n

However, the scrutiny surrounding Grande\u2019s voice really ramped up a few years ago after she began playing Glinda in the \u201cWicked\u201d movies, at which point she noticeably began speaking in a higher-pitched voice<\/a> in videos and interviews.\"\"<\/p>\n

Her post-\u201cWicked\u201d speaking voice has been compared to a transatlantic accent, which is a blend of English and American accents previously used by actors in the Golden Age of Hollywood.<\/p>\n

Grande \u2014 who is still known to typically speak like this today \u2014 has previously addressed accusations that she\u2019s been putting on a \u201cfake\u201d accent<\/a>, explaining that she changes her \u201cvocal placement\u201d to help \u201cpreserve\u201d her vocal cords for singing and speaking.\"\"\u201cIt\u2019s just something that\u2019s healthy for the voice. It\u2019s just basically pitching your voice up a tiny bit. It\u2019s just a normal thing for vocalists,\u201d she said on the \u201cSmartLess\u201d<\/a> podcast<\/a> last year, responding to comments about her \u201creal voice.\u201d \u201cPeople are like, \u2018That\u2019s not her natural voice.\u2019 And I\u2019m like, \u2018Well, it is actually, but it\u2019s just a little higher.\u2019 All of it is natural.\u201d\"\"<\/p>\n

\"\"In November, fans will see Grande return to acting in \u201cFocker In-Law,\u201d the latest \u201cMeet the Parents\u201d<\/a> sequel, which also stars Robert De Niro<\/a> and Ben Stiller<\/a>. Grande plays the titular in-law, Olivia Jones, who is marrying into the Focker family \u2014 and, based on the brand-new trailer, it sounds like she\u2019s tapped into some of her deeper tones for the role.\"\"After the trailer dropped yesterday, one fan tweeted<\/a>: \u201cGenuinely gasped hearing her speak without the Glinda voice for the first time in 3 years.\u201d\"\"\u201cher normal speaking voice is so tea oh how i\u2019ve missed her,\u201d echoed someone else<\/a>, while another user joked that she \u201cput some bass<\/a>\u201d into her speech. \u201cTHE REAL VOICE IM GAGGING,\u201d one excited user commented<\/a>.\"\"<\/p>\n

I can\u2019t lie, I still hear the \u201cGlinda voice\u201d a little\u2026but there\u2019s no doubt that she taps into her \u201cold voice\u201d when she delivers the line: \u201cWould you like to ask me some questions, Greg?\u201d Yep, that\u2019s 2020 Grande all over.<\/p>\n
