\n\tThat\u2019s the takeaway from the first trailer of \u201cHeart of the Beast<\/a>,\u201d a brutal survival story with Brad Pitt<\/a> and one devoted German Shepherd, that Paramount debuted at CinemaCon<\/a> on Thursday. Pitt stars in the upcoming film as a former Army Special Forces soldier\u00a0who has gone off the grid, but must return to civilization after his small plane crashes deep in the Alaskan wilderness.<\/p>\n \n\tPitt looks like he gives a haunted performance as a man struggling with PTSD, but the true standout may be the retired service dog who protects him from bears, wolves and other beasts. <\/p>\n \n\t\u201cIt\u2019s not the size of the dog in the fight that matters, it\u2019s the size of the fight in the dog,\u201d Pitt tells his canine BFF in the thrilling trailer. <\/p>\n \n\t\u201cI\u2019m going to get you home,\u201d he later reassures him. \u201cWe just have to do this the hard way.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tPitt\u2019s words seem on the nose. In \u201cHeart of the Beast,\u201d his character and the dog have to climb over dizzying mountain peaks and ford raging rivers in a desperate attempt to stay alive.<\/p>\n \n\tThe film reunites Pitt with David Ayer, the director of the 2014 World War II epic \u201cFury.\u201d The cast includes Oscar-winner J.K. Simmons. Ayer is a master of visceral, stomach-churning action, having also directed the likes of \u201cEnd of Watch\u201d and \u201cThe Beekeeper.\u201d He also directed the DC film \u201cSuicide Squad,\u201d an experience that sounded almost as brutal as anything he put on screen in \u201cHeart of the Beast.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tPitt produced \u201cHeart of the Beast\u201d with Damien Chazelle, the Oscar-winning filmmaker behind \u201cWhiplash\u201d and \u201cLa La Land.\u201d <\/p>\n \n\tParamount presented the footage at CinemaCon as part of its annual show-and-tell to theater owners. The studio also teased sequels to \u201cPaw Patrol\u201d and \u201cAngry Birds,\u201d and announced it was developing a follow-up to \u201cTop Gun: Maverick.\u201d This marks the first year at CinemaCon since David Ellison acquired Paramount for more than $8 billion.
