A county Roscommon centre for older people has received a largely report from the health watchdog.<\/p>\n
HIQA has published the findings of an inspection at Sacred Heart Hospital and Care Home, which took place in November last year, the details of which have been published today.<\/p>\n
The Sacred Heart Hospital provides residential, respite and rehabilitation services to 49 adults.<\/p>\n
It is organised into two units.<\/p>\n
St Catherine’s unit has 32 beds and includes one palliative care suite and three respite beds.<\/p>\n
St Michael’s provides 17 long-term beds.<\/p>\n
The facility was found to deliver a generally good standard of care, but significant improvements are still needed in fire safety and parts of the premises.<\/p>\n
The inspection was fully compliant in several important areas, including staffing, safeguarding residents, healthcare, infection prevention and residents’ rights.<\/p>\n
Residents told inspectors they were happy with the care provided and spoke positively about staff, describing them as kind, respectful and attentive.<\/p>\n
However, some fire doors and containment measures still required upgrading, and HIQA said further work is needed to ensure evacuation procedures and fire safety systems fully meet regulations.<\/p>\n
The report says management has made progress since previous inspections, particularly in governance and oversight, but some risks remain unresolved.<\/p>\n
HIQA says the provider has submitted a compliance plan setting out how the outstanding fire and premises issues will be addressed within agreed deadlines.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A county Roscommon centre for older people has received a largely report from the health watchdog.
