O’Sullivan’s Bar reopening<\/p>\n

One of West Cork’s most charming and well-known seaside pubs is back open after five months. Ireland’s most southerly pub underwent a major renovation project – just in time for the summer season.<\/p>\n

The famous and family-run O’Sullivan’s Bar of Crookhaven has reopened its doors this week with a fresh seating area and a new large window to show off that fantastic coastal view. The owners are delighted with the work and that the 93-year-old pub still maintains its generational charm.<\/p>\n

The picturesque bar, on the Mizen peninsula, boasts the ‘Most Southerly Pint in Ireland’. They had been operating out of the neighbouring seasonal bar over the winter, but from this week, customers can enjoy pints and famous crab sandwiches on the pier once again.<\/p>\n

While the bar was closed for renovations, the family had a difficult time following the death of Billy O’Sullivan<\/a>. The well-known father and grandfather was the second-generation publican to run the business. There is a new section of the bar paying tribute to him, including nostalgic photos and his favourite instrument – the accordion.<\/p>\n

Dermot O’Sullivan, Billy’s son and current owner, said: “We had a big job to do. We had to dig up the entire bar floor and had major reconstruction of our kitchens and storage areas.<\/p>\n

“We had an aspirational date to be open on St Patrick’s Day, which obviously didn’t go as planned. But we had an absolute date of the 14th of April, and thanks to fantastic local tradesmen, who we are so grateful for, we are back open now, and very happy to be so.”<\/p>\n

“It has been a very stressful few weeks, but we are open and ready for everyone, who hopefully won’t even notice the changes.”<\/p>\n

O’Sullivan’s has also recently had a big win, as it was named Munster’s Gastro pub of the year<\/a> at this year’s Irish Restaurant Awards.
