Big Mistakes, the crime comedy series from Dan Levy and Rachel Sennott, has proven to be a success for Netflix<\/a> following its release earlier this month. In addition to positive reviews from critics, viewers are taking a liking to it.<\/p>\n

The series sees Levy, who also serves as showrunner, play Nicky, a pastor who is roped into working for some local gangsters. He has company in sister Morgan (Taylor Ortega), and the duo become unlikely players in organised crime.<\/p>\n

Featuring Laurie Metcalf and Abby Quinn in supporting roles, all eight episodes of the series were released on Netflix<\/a> on 9 April, and it is still performing well as it currently sits in the #6 position in the streamer’s<\/a> UK TV chart (via FlixPatrol<\/a>).<\/p>\n

This is a slight drop from the peak of #4 that it reached on Friday (17 April), but it represents strong figures given it was released nearly a fortnight ago. The chart is currently topped by At Home with the Furys, which premiered its second season earlier this week.<\/p>\n

Big Mistakes<\/a> has also garnered a positive response from critics, with Rotten Tomatoes<\/a> currently reporting a solid approval rating of 79% from 43 reviews. The audience score is marginally lower, at 75%.<\/p>\n

“It’s a dark but quippy comedy featuring Levy’s signature humour, and although you’ll have to suspend disbelief to fully go on this ride, it’s a fun and escapist adventure that will take you out of your head for a while,” opined The Globe and Mail<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“Big Mistakes works mostly because we like watching Levy and Ortega’s chemistry as siblings, and we’ll always be there to see Laurie Metcalf do her thing,” noted Decider<\/a>, while FandomWire<\/a> called it “one of the funniest and most inventive shows of the year”. <\/p>\n

AV Club<\/a> was also full of praise, writing: “You might think the minds behind Schitt’s Creek and Bottoms would make for strange bedfellows, but Levy and Sennott’s sensibilities combine for a compelling blend of dark family comedy, crime caper and character study.”<\/p>\n

“You might be annoyed by Big Mistakes, but you won\u2019t be bored, and that’s something,” remarked The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>, while The Financial Times<\/a> called it “stylish and watchable” if a little “chaotic”.<\/p>\n

Slate<\/a> was less enthusiastic, however, writing: “It is agreeably energetic, and its first season goes by at a bingeable clip. But its frantic back-and-forth amounts to little in the end, a meal that goes down so fast it’s hard to remember what you just ate.”<\/p>\n
