This isn’t a handheld recorder being repurposed for video,” says Andrew Jones, Global Marketing Manager at Deity Microphones. “The inspiration came from analog ENG-style field mixers where everything was compact and self-contained. We focused on the jobs people do every day; interviews, small crews, run-and-gun setups. And we built a recorder that fits naturally into those workflows.”

Rather than focusing on bleeding-edge use case productions, the PR-4 was designed to handle the majority of production scenarios crews face daily. A single operator can capture a four-person setup, manage a combination of wireless and/or wired microphones, or even integrate external audio sources such as a PA feed using the 6.3mm TRS input found within the XLR Combo jack.

For wedding shooters, corporate videographers, video podcasters, and documentary crews, this means fewer compromises and less time spent managing multiple devices. The PR-4 is designed to reduce setup complexity while still providing the control and flexibility expected in professional workflows.

At the core of the PR-4 is Deity’s new ReGain Preamp architecture, delivering up to 60dB of gain with an equivalent input noise performance that competes with the top leading recorders in the market. By achieving this level of performance, the PR-4 is able to cleanly drive even the most gain-hungry dynamic broadcast/podcast microphones without the need for inline boosters.

To improve reliability in the field, the PR-4 records simultaneously to both an SD card and an internal 64GB SSD, creating an automatic backup of every recording. This dual-media approach helps protect against data loss caused by card failure, accidental formatting, or file corruption during offloading.

“The PR-4 is the only audio recorder on the market under $5,995 to feature an internal SSD backup system, bringing a level of redundancy typically reserved for higher-end production gear into a compact and affordable form factor,” adds Andrew Jones.

The PR-4 is also the first field recorder to natively transmit timecode wirelessly to timecode boxes and slates. By acting as a central master clock, it simplifies synchronization across cameras and audio devices without requiring additional transmitters, dongles, or hardwire setups.

Operators will be able to sync an unlimited number of compatible devices within 10 meters of the PR-4. And users can also set the PR-4 to a different wireless TC group for situations where they’re working in a crowded area such as a press conference or red carpet and want to avoid other crews’ timecode signals. This integration allows small production teams to deploy timecode faster, reducing production syncing time and improving overall workflow efficiency during setup.

The PR-4’s physical design uses a top-down layout that keeps all connections accessible whether mounted on a camera or used inside a sound bag. XLR connectors are placed on the right side, mirroring the ENG camera tradition of placing them on the “dumb side” of a camera. Outputs are placed on the left side, so they align with the inputs of a camera, allowing users to keep the cable runs short and tidy.

“What’s also awesome about our layout is the battery/SD card bay is accessible without having to dismount the unit from on top of a camera. We wanted to make sure we got all the little details right with the design.”

An optional metal cheeseplate-style cage expands mounting possibilities, transforming the PR-4 into a flexible recording hub capable of supporting wireless receivers, microphone mounts, and camera rig accessories.

The PR-4 delivers more than 8.5 hours of runtime using a Deity NP-F550 battery and supports internal battery charging from either its USB-C port or Hirose-compatible power port. This allows operators to maintain continuous operation and simplifies power management during highly mobile production.

The PR-4 also offers built-in processing, with LiveHit DeNoiser helping maintain clarity when environmental conditions would otherwise make a speaker’s voice hard to follow. Additional features include VoiceAware Automix, which dynamically manages active inputs to create a clean stereo reference mix for post-production. The Deity PR-4 also features four channels of AES3 and AES42 digital microphones, dual independent outputs, and integration with the Sidus Audio app for wireless control and monitoring.

The PR-4 Field Recorder will be available for $449 USD through authorized dealers worldwide. First available optional accessories include the PR-4 Cage ($59), and Deity Field Audio Bag (Mini) ($79).
To celebrate the launch of the PR-4 at NAB 2026, Deity is offering a free sound bag with every pre-order (limited quantities per dealer, at participating dealers worldwide), before the record starts shipping mid-May.

www.deitymic.com

Deity Microphones announced the PR-4, a compact six-track field recorder featuring four inputs, 32-bit float recording, advanced routing,…

[6
179968,179970,179966,179959,179969,179960,179963,61,60,30246,179965,177596,179961,143430,7487,80,179964,179962,179967
0":"post-409591","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-technology","8":"tag-32-bit-float","9":"tag-aes42","10":"tag-audio-recorders","11":"tag-automixer","12":"tag-deity","13":"tag-denoiser","14":"tag-field-recording","15":"tag-ie","16":"tag-ireland","17":"tag-monitoring","18":"tag-multitrack-recording","19":"tag-nab-2026","20":"tag-on-camera","21":"tag-product-news","22":"tag-recording","23":"tag-technology","24":"tag-timecode","25":"tag-wireless-control","26":"tag-wireless-timecode
["GET
