{"id":410029,"date":"2026-04-21T13:04:12","date_gmt":"2026-04-21T13:04:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/410029\/"},"modified":"2026-04-21T13:04:12","modified_gmt":"2026-04-21T13:04:12","slug":"every-tom-dick-and-harry-from-cork-city-being-sent-to-glengarriff-claims-councillor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/410029\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Every Tom, Dick, and Harry&#8217; from Cork City being sent to Glengarriff, claims councillor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\">\u201cEvery Tom, Dick, and Harry\u201d from <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishexaminer.com\/news\/cork-news\/\">Cork<\/a> City and beyond is being sent to an emergency accommodation centre in the West Cork village of Glengarriff, leading to incidents of antisocial behaviour, according to a local county councillor.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The issue was raised by Independent Ireland councillor Danny Collins at a recent meeting of Cork County Council\u2019s Western Division during discussions on a report on <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishexaminer.com\/maintopics\/housing_topic-5047454.html\">housing<\/a> provision.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Mr Collins said residents and business owners in Glengarriff were concerned that an emergency accommodation centre in the the village was being used as \u201ca dumping area\u201d for people from Cork City and further afield.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Mr Collins said Glengarriff is a small tourist village and should not be used to house people from Cork City or further afield who have no connection to the area or West Cork.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">He said local people had contacted him about ongoing incidents of antisocial behaviour connected with the centre.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Mr Collins said the situation was so bad that some local people were afraid to go for walks in the evening and local businesses were threatening to withhold paying their rates until the issue was addressed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Mr Collins added: \u201cIf somebody is homeless, surely they can be dealt with in that area.
