B.C. mayors and councillors who are in Victoria for the annual Union of B.C. Municipalities convention will join Save Our Streets for a rally at the legislature Wednesday (Sept. 24).<\/p>\n
SOS and municipal leaders plan to call for provincial and federal governments to prioritize public safety with a rally at 12:20 p.m. on the lower steps of the building on Belleville Street.<\/p>\n
The call comes one year after SOS released the results of a province-wide poll that showed widespread public dissatisfaction with provincial and federal inaction on crime, public safety, addiction and mental illness, and the justice system.<\/p>\n
Scheduled speakers include Jess Ketchum, co-founder of\u00a0Save Our Streets; Victoria Mayor Marianne Alto;\u00a0Cori Ramsay,\u00a0Prince George councillor\u00a0and UBCM first vice-president; Nanaimo Mayor Leonard Krog;\u00a0Sechelt Mayor John Henderson; Kelowna Mayor Tom Dyas; and Port Coquitlam Mayor Brad West.<\/p>\n
