The talk will look at legal sources such as the Brehon Laws, the Annals, and a specialist tract called the Banshenchas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">For all that early Irish society, like other European societies at the time, was intensely patriarchal, and there\u2019s evidence that many women were able to work around the restrictions of such a society and exercise considerable influence, if not power, in the political sphere. Although not well-known today, many were famous in their own time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">Highly regarded archaeologist and historian, Anthony (Tony) Candon, who is originally from New Ross will present the lecture on the night.
