{"id":411942,"date":"2026-04-22T15:28:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-22T15:28:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/411942\/"},"modified":"2026-04-22T15:28:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-22T15:28:08","slug":"the-other-bennet-sister-is-the-biggest-u-k-drama-launch-in-a-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/411942\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;The Other Bennet Sister&#8217; Is the Biggest U.K. Drama Launch in a Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tWhile audiences in the U.S. keenly wait on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/the-other-bennet-sister\/\" id=\"auto-tag_the-other-bennet-sister_1\" data-tag=\"the-other-bennet-sister\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Other Bennet Sister<\/a>\u2018s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/britbox\/\" id=\"auto-tag_britbox_1\" data-tag=\"britbox\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">BritBox<\/a> release, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/bbc\/\" id=\"auto-tag_bbc_1\" data-tag=\"bbc\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">BBC<\/a> can boast some fantastic viewership numbers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe first episode of the BBC-BritBox adaptation of Janice Hadlow\u2019s bestseller has captured the hearts of BBC viewers with a consolidated audience of 7.3 million people.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tSince the show launched on March 15, the 28-day figure makes The Other Bennet Sister the biggest launch of a new drama in the U.K. across all platforms and streamers since May last year, with 4.1 million (56 percent) of the audience viewing through BBC iPlayer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tPlaying the oft-overlooked middle sister in Pride and Prejudice, Mary Bennet, titular star Ella Bruccoleri <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-features\/ella-bruccoleri-the-other-bennet-sister-interview-mary-bbc-1236537697\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">caught up with The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> about fan reaction only last month. \u201cIt\u2019s a story about the transformative power of kindness, really,\u201d she said in the sitdown interview. \u201cIt\u2019s about realizing that you\u2019re worth more than just your appearance. And it\u2019s about found family. I think it\u2019s quite an affirming watch.\u201d The show is set to drop on BritBox May 6.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tLindsay Salt, director of BBC Drama, said the Beeb is \u201cdelighted\u201d the series has been taken into the nation\u2019s hearts. \u201cIt seems Mary, brought beautifully to life by Ella Brucolleri, may have been overlooked by her own family, but she has been embraced with open arms by the audience. How glorious is that!\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tJane Tranter, CEO of production company Bad Wolf, added: \u201cBringing such a significant new audience to the world of Jane Austen on the BBC has been, from start to finish, a joy. Janice Haddow\u2019s brilliant original story was loved into life by Sarah Quintrell, Jennifer Sheridan and Asim Abbasi and of course our brilliant cast led by the incomparable Ella Bruccoleri.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cMary Bennet may have begun this journey as a wallflower, but she is now, quite rightfully, on everyone\u2019s dance card.
