{"id":411984,"date":"2026-04-22T16:00:26","date_gmt":"2026-04-22T16:00:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/411984\/"},"modified":"2026-04-22T16:00:26","modified_gmt":"2026-04-22T16:00:26","slug":"almost-2800-complaints-made-about-childrens-hospital-services","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/411984\/","title":{"rendered":"Almost 2,800 complaints made about children&#8217;s hospital services"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nearly 2,800 complaints were made about children\u2019s hospital services over the past three years, according to new figures.<\/p>\n<p>Children\u2019s Health Ireland (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breakingnews.ie\/ireland\/1700-children-left-waiting-over-four-weeks-for-urgent-appointments-1867890.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">CHI<\/a>) said the highest number of concerns raised related to communication and information, followed by safe and effective care.<\/p>\n<p>More than half of all complaints were logged at Crumlin Children\u2019s Hospital in Dublin, the largest service in the country.<\/p>\n<p>However, the figures do show an apparent drop in the number of families raising concerns over the period from 2023 to 2025.<\/p>\n<p>In 2023, there were 991 complaints registered overall, including 582 at Crumlin and 228 at Temple Street.<\/p>\n<p>By 2024, that total fell to 896 before dropping again in 2025 to 885.<\/p>\n<p>CHI said<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breakingnews.ie\/ireland\/mediation-successful-in-dispute-between-chi-and-business-manager-1874202.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> complaints<\/a> were categorised across a number of pillars and that a single complaint could relate to more than one issue.<\/p>\n<p>For 2025, that meant the total number of issues flagged by parents or patients was 1,793.<\/p>\n<p>Of that, 402 related to access to healthcare, and 60 concerned accountability.<\/p>\n<p>There were 686 issues logged relating to communication and information, and 36 that involved \u201cdignity and respect.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Also flagged on 550 occasions was safe and effective care.<\/p>\n<p>There were a small number of other complaints that touched on issues around privacy, improving health, and participation.<\/p>\n<p>The type of complaints made in 2023 and 2024 were similar with most raising access to healthcare, safety, and communication.<\/p>\n<p>CHI withheld some low-volume figures on the basis that release of the information could identify an individual patient.<\/p>\n<p>Separate figures showed the number of favourable comments that came from families about treatment.<\/p>\n<p>In 2023, they received almost 1,500 \u2018compliments\u2019 \u2013 with nearly 60 per cent relating to Crumlin Children\u2019s Hospital.<\/p>\n<p>For 2024, there were 1,710 compliments logged and last year another 1,275.<\/p>\n<p>In an information note, CHI said they used the HSE \u2018Your Service, Your Say\u2019 model for managing feedback from patients and their families.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Nearly 2,800 complaints were made about children\u2019s hospital services over the past three years, according to new figures.&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":411985,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[34],"tags":[103,397,396,61,60],"class_list":{"0":"post-411984","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-healthcare","8":"tag-health","9":"tag-health-care","10":"tag-healthcare","11":"tag-ie","12":"tag-ireland"},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/411984","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=411984"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/411984\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/411985"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=411984"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=411984"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=411984"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
