Bournemouth’s Alex Scott has piqued the interest of Ireland fans in recent months with his impressive Premier League performances.<\/p>\n

The 22-year-old midfielder has been a major part of Bournemouth’s steady campaign this year, with a late winner at the Emirates among his three Premier League goals thus far this season.<\/p>\n

Scott’s performances have been especially noteworthy for Irish fans as he is eligible to play for the Boys in Green.<\/p>\n

Born in Guernsey, Scott’s grandfather Essie hails from Dublin, meaning that Scott could choose to represent Ireland at international level.<\/p>\n

Judging by reports this week, Heimir Hallgr\u00edmsson is not the only coach interested in acquiring Scott’s services, with both Manchester United and Chelsea said to be pursuing the Bournemouth star.<\/p>\n

Alex Scott linked with Manchester United<\/p>\n

CaughtOffside\u00a0reported on Wednesday that Alex Scott is a target for both Manchester United and Chelsea, with Bournemouth reportedly open to offers above \u00a350 million for the up-and-coming star.<\/p>\n

With Casemiro leaving an already woefully subpar United midfield this summer, Scott would appear a smart acquisition for Michael Carrick (presuming the ex-United midfielder does indeed continue in the job).<\/p>\n

John Cross of the UK\u00a0Mirror\u00a0also reports that both clubs are interested in Scott<\/a>, saying that United in particular have been taken by his attitude and ability to push play forward.<\/p>\n

With Manchester United now almost certain to be playing Champions League football next season, this would be a massive step up for Alex Scott.<\/p>\n

Curiously, his step-sister Maya Le Tissier is currently captain of the United women’s team.<\/p>\n

Scott has a big decision to make this summer as to whether to remain at Bournemouth, where he has plied his trade for three seasons, or make a bold move to one of the Premier League’s big hitters.<\/p>\n

He will also soon have a major decision to make regarding his international career.<\/p>\n

Scott was called up to the England squad by Thomas Tuchel late last year without making an appearance, and has represented the country throughout his underage career.<\/p>\n

However, Ireland head coach Heimir Hallgr\u00edmsson is well aware of his Irish heritage, and admitted in a recent interview with\u00a0The42<\/a> that Scott would be a “good player” to recruit.<\/p>\n

It seems as though that will be a tough task, but stranger things have happened. We could yet see Alex Scott of Manchester United lining out for Ireland, depending on how the young midfielder chooses this summer.<\/p>\n
