\n Tensions rose in a Limerick City suburb over the weekend after a local park was damaged by a food vendor.\u00a0\n <\/p>\n

While council staff initially intervened at Greystones Park \u00a0on Ennis Road, further damage was caused after matches on Sunday.<\/p>\n

The truck reportedly took a different route when exiting the park, which worsened the condition of the green.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Speaking to Live95 News, Councillor Shane Hickey O’Mara says it was a frustrating moment for locals:<\/p>\n

“It was even worse on the way out. This was after the tensions had been brought down, and everybody felt like, okay, look, there’s a one-off. But the fact that it happened on the way out-“.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n

Councillor Shane Hickey O’Mara was contacted by frustrated residents- he brought a motion on the matter to the council chamber.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Speaking to Live95 News, he explained that the situation shouldn’t happen again.<\/p>\n

“You know, it’s the community green, it’s where people walk their dogs, it’s where people’s kids play, you know. Luckily, the council actually got behind it today, which we really, really appreciate in the community.<\/p>\n

“The fact that they’ve actually given the guarantee that it won’t be let on a green space, again, that they will find an alternative location for food trucks”.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He says no one is against match vendors, as they add to any day out in and around Limerick City.<\/p>\n

\u00a0“Nobody’s against the vendor. People are entitled to make a living and \u00a0do what they need to do. And \u00a0obviously, you know, having burgers and chips and stuff is all part of the match \u00a0experience. So it’s not against the Gaelic grounds, but it is about protecting that park that the community really love”.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
