Delano entertained viewers with his playful antics and even announced a pet naming contest winner live on air<\/p>\n

Craig Melvin<\/a> had a nerve-wracking \u201cBring Your Kid to Work\u201d Day.<\/p>\n

The Today co-anchor invited his 12-year-old son, Delano<\/a>, to pop by Studio 1A for the Today show on Thursday, April 23, in honor of the annual day where kids join their parents at work.<\/p>\n

Delano made an appearance during the first part of the NBC morning show with other kids of staffers on the Today Show Plaza, but he really shone during the 3rd Hour of Today<\/a>, when he joined his dad, Al Roker<\/a> and Dylan Dreyer<\/a> at the round table for a discussion.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy son, Delano, woke up early, very early,\u201d Melvin quipped, as a producer rolled Delano into the frame on his chair.<\/p>\n

After calling the entrance \u201creally fun,\u201d it seemed that Delano wasn’t done taking advantage of his spinning chair as he tried to twirl it around at the desk, which Melvin quickly put a stop to.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, son, you’ve got to\u2026 the cameras,\u201d Melvin said, pointing to the camera with one hand and moving Delano’s chair back with his other. \u201cYou’ve got to pay attention.\u201d<\/p>\n

Roker quickly came to Delano’s defense, telling Melvin, \u201cHe’s just doing what you do.\u201d<\/p>\n

Melvin laughed off the moment, saying, \u201cThat’s true, fair.\u201d<\/p>\n

Later in the segment, Delano had the opportunity to step into his journalist father’s footsteps and announce the winners of a pet naming contest. When Melvin told his son he could read from the prompter, Delano replied, \u201cOh, shoot, okay,\u201d as Roker commented, \u201cThat was close,\u201d as it seemed Delano could have dropped an expletive live on air.<\/p>\n

But all was well as Delano got to name the hilarious winner \u2014 a cat named \u2018Cheddar Big Booty Cheeseburger’ \u2014 to which Roker joked, \u201cThat’s what we call your dad!\u201d<\/p>\n

And while Delano cracked up, Melvin warned his son, \u201cDon’t encourage Mr. Roker.\u201d<\/p>\n

When Melvin asked his son what else he planned to do with his day off, Delano simply replied, \u201cUhhhh,\u201d which prompted his dad to quip, \u201cGreat, we missed school for this.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis kid’s a chip off the old block!\u201d Roker joked.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was Roker’s first ever father-son swipe,\u201d Melvin noted. \u201cThat was impressive.\u201d<\/p>\n

Delano ended his cameo on the show by reading the prompter and suggesting that the next segment would include tips for getting \u201cyour dad to raise your allowance.\u201d<\/p>\n

But Melvin assured him, \u201cThat’s not happening,\u201d before congratulating his son on a job well done.<\/p>\n
