{"id":414140,"date":"2026-04-23T21:44:10","date_gmt":"2026-04-23T21:44:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/414140\/"},"modified":"2026-04-23T21:44:10","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T21:44:10","slug":"remote-controlled-rotating-sex-toy-recalled-over-risk-of-injury-from-detaching-parts-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/414140\/","title":{"rendered":"Remote-controlled rotating sex toy recalled over risk of injury from detaching parts \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph free \">Users of a remote controlled sex toy have been warned by the communications watchdog to stop using the product immediately or risk potentially serious injury. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph free \"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/comreg\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/comreg\/\">ComReg<\/a> issued the warning about the \u201cRemote Rotating Dildo\u201d sold by lingerie and sex toy retailer Ann Summers until as recently as last month over risks that parts could become detached during use. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph free \">According to Ann Summers, the sex toy was sold through its retail stores and online from last September until March when it \u201cidentified a potential fault within the products internal mechanism\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph free \">The retailer said that \u201cas a precaution and in line with our commitment to customer safety we have made the decision to recall the item\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph free \">Customers have been told to \u201cstop using the product immediately and return it for a full refund\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph free \">The involvement of ComReg in the recall of a sex toy is most unusual but the watchdog said it was issuing the alert because the \u201cdevice is subject to the Radio Equipment Directive\u201d \u2013 an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/european-union\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/european-union\/\">EU<\/a>-wide \u201cregulatory framework for placing radio equipment on the market\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph free \">In essence, it ensures that a single market for all radio equipment exists by setting \u201cessential requirements for safety and health, electromagnetic compatibility and the efficient use of the radio spectrum\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph free \">Ann Summers said returns could be made either in person or through the post \u201cdepending on what is most convenient\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph free \">Customers have also been told that they do not need to have a receipt to get a full refund and they do not need to have proof of purchase and once they send back the product in question they will receive a full refund via their preferred method of payment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph free \">Customers have also been given the option of exchanging the product for one of an equivalent value and have been told that \u201cas a gesture of goodwill\u201d affected customers can take advantage of a 20 per cent discount on their next purchase.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph free \">The retailer stressed that recalls like this are rare.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph free \">The lingerie and sex toy retailer has two shops in the Republic, on Henry Street in Dublin and Princes St in Cork.
