Neil Robertson took a narrow lead out of the first session of his World Snooker Championship clash with Pang Jungxu, coming out of the evening session with a 5-3 advantage at the Crucible.<\/p>\n

Coming into the tournament as the fourth seed, the Australian was heavily fancied to overcome his unseeded opponent in the opening round. Robertson would go on to win the opening frame of the match, before making a bizarre error soon after.<\/p>\n

Pang Jungxu built up a decent lead in the match’s second frame, although Neil Robertson still had a chance to win it when he visited the table.<\/p>\n

The 44-year old would go on to have a costly miss on the black. Surprisingly, he then opted to concede the frame. This was despite the fact that he trailed by 47 points with 51 points remaining on the table.<\/p>\n

It led to quite a bit of confusion, with referee Terry Camilleri stepping in to have a word with the player.<\/p>\n

Camilleri: I have to warn you because there was 47 left.<\/p>\n

Robertson: No? 57 behind, three reds left?<\/p>\n

Camilleri: Three reds left, yeah. There was three reds left. Can you bring the score up please? It was 57-10 with three reds.<\/p>\n

Robertson: Okay, I miscalculated the score. Sorry, I didn’t mean to.<\/p>\n

It soon became apparent that Robertson had miscalculated the score, thinking he trailed by 57 points instead of 47. That miscalculation will hit his pocket, with the player now set for a \u00a3250 fine for conceding the frame early.<\/p>\n

Appearing in the BBC commentary booth, Ken Doherty said he could not believe it when Robertson conceded the frame in such a manner.<\/p>\n

He misread the score. He was 47 behind…<\/p>\n

The referee is letting him know that he was only 47 behind, Neil thought he was 57 behind.<\/p>\n

It was totally out of character. I couldn’t believe it to be honest, that he had conceded. Not only will he be getting warned, he will be getting fined for that as well..<\/p>\n

\u00a3250 that cost him!<\/p>\n

Not the biggest financial punishment, but certainly a needless one.<\/p>\n

Neil Robertson would go on to win the session 5-3. You get the sense that he will take his time when it comes to counting the score during the remainder of this year’s World Snooker Championship.<\/p>\n
