\n\tDeadliest Catch<\/a> season 22 has set its premiere date: Friday, May 8 at 8 p.m. ET\/PT on Discovery Channel<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tSadly, it will be a season remembered for a tragedy. Todd Meadows<\/a>, a 25-year-old deckhand on the Aleutian Lady, died as a result<\/a> of an accident during production.<\/p>\n

\n\tLast month, Meadows\u2019 bunkmate Trey John Green III told\u00a0Page Six<\/a>\u00a0the Bering Sea was \u201ccalm\u201d in the late afternoon of Feb. 20, but added the water was \u201conly a degree or two above freezing.\u201d The ship\u2019s crew members were taking turns climbing into the boats to sift through crabs they\u2019d just caught. Green said Meadows was in a pot, which was seated in the ship\u2019s launcher, when it fell \u201cover the rail\u201d and into the chilly water.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s one of those things that none of us really understand,\u201d Green, 30, said<\/a>. \u201cI don\u2019t know what happened.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tMeadows was \u201cdoing exactly what he was supposed to be doing,\u201d Green added. \u201cWe\u2019re like, \u2018Holy crap, he\u2019s gonna sink to the bottom. We\u2019re not gonna have any way to get this pot back up.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBut Green says he saw Meadows escape the pot and attempt to swim. He was not wearing a life vest \u2014 none of the crew were. Meadows was in the water just \u201cthree or four minutes\u201d before the boat\u2019s designated swimmer retrieved him from the sea. He was already \u201clifeless,\u201d Green said.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe crew attempted CPR and used a defibrillator, but the efforts failed. They wrapped Meadows\u2019 body in a tarp and \u201cplace[d] it in the freezer to preserve it and head[ed] back to town,\u201d the publication wrote.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cEverybody did everything they could do,\u201d Green said, adding that \u201ceverything\u201d was captured by the production\u2019s cameras.<\/p>\n

\n\tMeadows\u2019 accident was indeed filmed, but it will not be shown on TV, a person with knowledge of production says. The season 22 premiere will include a tribute to Meadows, and subsequent episodes will include footage of Todd as filmed in the weeks documented prior to his death.<\/p>\n
