{"id":414793,"date":"2026-04-24T07:16:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-24T07:16:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/414793\/"},"modified":"2026-04-24T07:16:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T07:16:08","slug":"kildare-outgun-westmeath-to-reach-leinster-u20-final","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/414793\/","title":{"rendered":"Kildare outgun Westmeath to reach Leinster U20 final"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Kildare have booked their Dalata Hotel Group Leinster U20 football semi-final after a 1-20 to 2-12 win against Westmeath in Mullingar.<\/p>\n<p>The quarter-final was rescheduled after heavy in and strong winds forced the abandonment of the original fixture at half-time in Kinnegad, with Kildare leading by three points.<\/p>\n<p>It was the Lilies who started with a flourish at TEG Cusack Park, racing into a 1-10 to 0-00 lead after 15 minutes, with Ronan Kelly getting their goal.<\/p>\n<p>Kealan Connell finally got Westmeath off the mark in the 17th minute and a goal by Cillian Rochford gave them further hope, but Kildare still had a comfortable lead at the break &#8211; 1-13 to 1-14.<\/p>\n<p>The home side started the second period strongly, with Will Scahill kicking a couple of two-pointers. A goal on 45 minutes by Donnacha Maguire reduced the deficit to four points.<\/p>\n<p>Kildare, however, regained the initiative when it mattered.
