\n\tIn the lead-up to their Coachella<\/a> debut, P-Pop band BINI<\/a> was hit with nerves. It wasn\u2019t stage fright. Stacey confesses it was a case of \u201cWhat if no one will watch us?\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tInstead, the eight-member group stepped out to a ripple of the Philippines flag among thousands of fans and festival revelers who had gathered to see them perform. Stacey, Colet, Maloi, Gwen, Aiah, Mikha, Jhoanna and Sheena, better known as BINI, took Coachella by storm.<\/p>\n

\n\tThat first weekend, they made history as the first P-Pop band and the first South Asian act to perform at the desert-based festival. <\/p>\n

\n\tThen they came back for more.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt was so overwhelming,\u201d Mikha admits. \u201cBefore we stepped on stage for weekend 2, our boss gave us a talk and said, \u2018This is where you have so much more to prove, and expectations are higher.\u2019\u201d And prove it they did. Their weekend 2 performance matched that of Friday night headliner Sabrina Carpenter, who brought out Madonna.<\/a><\/p>\n

\n\tYes, BINI are safely riding a post-festival high, and they\u2019re emotional about it.<\/p>\n

\n\tAs the group sits around a conference table at Penske Media\u2019s HQ in West Los Angeles looking back at the monumental moment, Jhoanna says, \u201cWe shared original Filipino music with people, not just Filipinos.\u201d She continues, \u201cPeople went to Coachella for music, and being able to perform and show them what we can do is a really big for us. We\u2019re stepping into this. We are making a path for other Filipino artists to be heard.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe band has just released their third EP, \u201cSignals.\u201d The EP will be accompanied by a world tour starting later this summer.<\/p>\n

\n\tBINI first hit the scene in 2021, forming through ABS-CBN\u2019s \u201cStar Hunt Academy.\u201d Claimed by the Philippines as the \u201cnation\u2019s girl group,\u201d the group has since had over 1 billion streams, and songs like \u201cShagidi\u201d and \u201cPantropiko\u201d have sparked viral dance trends on TikTok.<\/p>\n

\n\tDuring that time, as a group, their sound has evolved. \u201cBorn to Win\u201d was a cute but fierce bubble gum pop song. \u201cWe don\u2019t want to be boxed into a certain genre,\u201d Mihka says, as they began exploring and experimenting with genres including ballads and R&B.<\/p>\n

\n\tCoachella marked a turning point and has opened up a world of possibilities for what they once deemed an \u201cimpossible\u201d goal. Jhoanna says, \u201cIt\u2019s not just about representing the Philippines. It\u2019s about us as Filipino artists being part of these conversations. When people ask you, \u2018Okay, who is your favorite group?\u2019 We\u2019re part of that. I think that\u2019s our next goal, to be part of these conversations naturally.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAijah hopes the visibility will inspire others. \u201cYou see something that you can relate to you, and say, \u2018Oh, that\u2019s me. I want to be like that, or I want to be like her.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tNext up, they\u2019re already in the process of recording tracks for their next EP. Jhoanna declares, \u201cLet\u2019s strike while the iron is hot.\u201d<\/p>\n
