\n\tTwo of Universal\u2019s most highly anticipated reboots are shifting release dates: \u201cMiami Vice \u201985,\u201d starring Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler, is moving to May 19, 2028, taking the previously announced release date for the next installment of \u201cThe Mummy,\u201d which features the return of Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe yet-to-be-titled fourth \u201cMummy\u201d movie, from Radio Silence\u2019s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, will now hit theaters on Oct. 15, 2027. Academy Award winners Fraser and Weisz will reprise their roles<\/a> as adventurer Rick O\u2019Connell and Egyptologist Evelyn O\u2019Connell in the movie, plot details for which are being kept \u2014 not unironically \u2014 under wraps.<\/p>\n

\n\tProduction on the \u201cMiami Vice\u201d update, from \u201cF1\u201d and \u201cTop Gun: Maverick\u201d director Joseph Kosinski, will start later this year. On Thursday, Variety reported that newly minted Oscar winner Jordan and Oscar nominee Butler closed their deals<\/a> to play the suave South Florida detectives Ricardo \u201cRico\u201d Tubbs and James \u201cSonny\u201d Crockett in the film, which will explore \u201cthe glamour and corruption of mid-80s Miami.\u201d The reboot is said to be inspired by the pilot episode and first season of the landmark Universal television series that \u201cinfluenced culture and set the style of everything from fashion to filmmaking.\u201d (Philip Michael Thomas and Don Johnson starred in the classic 80s TV series; then Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx led in the first big-screen adaptation, 2006\u2019s \u201cMiami Vice,\u201d directed by Michael Mann.) \u201cMiami Vice \u201985\u201d previously scheduled for release on Aug. 6, 2027, will be filmed for Imax.<\/p>\n

\n\tUniversal won\u2019t vacate that August date, setting an untitled event film on the calendar instead.
