Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman and cold brew innovator Anthony Kiedis has a long history of dating women much, much younger than him. He’s been doing that ever since he was young. At 24, for instance, Kiedis was involved with the 16-year-old movie star Ione Skye, and his 2004 memoir Scar Tissue is full of disturbing stories like that. Today, Kiedis is 63 years old. His current girlfriend is at least an adult, but she’s less than half of his age. She’s writing about it, too.

These days, Anthony Kiedis is dating Eileen Kelly, a 30-year-old sex educator and podcaster. She’s also a sex and dating columnist for Vogue, and her latest column is called “My Boyfriend Is Double My Age.” In the column, Kelly writes about the “nuanced issue” of inter-generational dating. She allows that age-gap relationships often involve power imbalances but insists that people have simplistic ideas about how these things manifest. She says that she’s lost friendships and that the two of them have been mistaken for father and daughter in public. She does not, however, disclose the fact that the guy she’s talking about is motherfucking Anthony Kiedis from the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Apparently, that part is just implied.

In her column, Kelly tells the story of a meet-cute at a mutual friend’s party, and she also talks about being frustrated with a friend who insists on dating someone her own age. Here is one excerpt:

There is something to be said for a man who’s simply had more time to get his shit together, and my much older boyfriend seems genuinely excited to be with me — not like he’s biding his time before he can swipe for someone better. He is fully aware that he’s one lucky bastard.

It’s pretty weird! I don’t like it! Nobody is doing anything wrong here. This is these people’s business, and I wish nothing but peace and happiness for the two of them. Nevertheless, I am grossed out.
