Charli XCX’s mockumentary film The Moment now has an HBO Max release date.

The pop singer has dabbled in acting over the years, but The Moment serves as a very personal project for her, even though it’s a work of fiction. The film follows a fictionalized portrayal of Charli XCX as she deals with the pressures of fame while working in the music industry.

The Moment will be released on HBO Max on Friday, May 29, followed by its HBO premiere on Saturday, May 30 at 8 p.m. EDT.

Aside from Charli XCX, other cast members include Rosanna Arquette, Kate Berlant, Jamie Demetriou, Arielle Dombasle, Hailey Benton Gates, Kylie Jenner, Trew Mullen, Mel Ottenberg, Isaac Powell, Rachel Sennott, Rish Shah, Alexander Skarsgård and Michael Workéyè. While some of the stars are playing characters, others (like Jenner) are following in Charli XCX’s footsteps and playing themselves.

The A24-distributed film serves as Aidan Zamiri’s directorial debut, though he has directed several music videos over the years for artists like Raye, FKA Twigs, Billie Eilish and Charli XCX. He also wrote the screenplay with Bertie Brandes, based on Charli XCX’s original story.

The pop superstar produced The Moment with David Hinojosa, who has produced films like Babygirl and the Oscar-winning The Brutalist.

The Moment premiered earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival and the Berlin International Film Festival before being released in theaters, where it grossed $5.1 million at the box office. Critics have given The Moment positive-to-mixed reviews and a 67% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences, however, have been much more receptive, with a score of 75%.

Over the past 13 years, Charli XCX has released several albums, including True Romance, Sucker, Charli, How I’m Feeling Now and Crash, singles like “Boom Clap,” and collaborations with Rita Ora, Lizzo, BTS, Sam Smith, Troye Sivan and Eilish.

Her most recent album, Brat, has been her most successful record to date, debuting in the Top 3 on the Billboard 200 chart and producing singles like “Von Dutch,” “360” and “Apple.” At the Grammys, Brat, which became a pop culture sensation in 2024, won Best Dance/Electronic Album and Best Recording Package.

Outside of her music career, Charli XCX has also acted in projects like Erupcja, The Angry Birds Movie, UglyDolls, 100 Nights of Hero and Faces of Death. She also appeared in I Want Your Sex and The Gallerist, both of which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival alongside The Moment.

On the small screen, the singer guest-starred as herself on HBO Max’s Gossip Girl and Prime Video’s Overcompensating.

After its Sundance premiere and theatrical release, fans are just weeks away from being able to watch Charli XCX’s The Moment from the comfort of their homes when it becomes available on HBO Max and HBO at the end of May.
