Manchester United<\/a> officials are focused on a major signing this summer with Champions League football likely to be on offer at Old Trafford, according to reports.<\/p>\n

Fernandes lifts lid on decision to stay at United<\/p>\n

Bruno Fernandes has revealed the key role his wife played in his decision to stay at Manchester United last summer.<\/p>\n

The 31-year-old United captain was linked with a big-money move to the Saudi Pro-League and it has been reported his agent Miguel Pinho was in talks with Al-Hilal over a possible \u00a3100million transfer.<\/p>\n

Fernandes told the Wayne Rooney Show on BBC Sport: \u201cI stayed because I thought I still had something that I can give back to the club.<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously the Saudi situation, with the money\u2026 there was a lot. The good thing I have in my family is that my wife is pretty down to earth like me.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re very aware that we don\u2019t want to be the richest person in the world.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe just want to be the ones that have achieved the dreams they had and live a good life with their kids and trying to be as successful as possible.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe words of my wife were like, \u2018have you achieved your dreams? Have you achieved everything you wanted?\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd that small thing she said made me understand that she\u2019s on the same page as me. Let\u2019s keep trying and see where this takes me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fernandes appears to have vindicated his decision by producing some of his best form for United this season as they chase a place in the Champions League.<\/p>\n

He has scored eight Premier League goals and made 18 assists, two short of the record currently shared by Kevin De Bruyne and Thierry Henry.<\/p>\n

Tchouameni to Man Utd update<\/p>\n

The Red Devils have been linked with moves for several midfielders to partner with Fernandes since Fabrizio Romano confirmed they will sign two this summer<\/a>, but journalist Andy Mitten has revealed the club’s La Liga scouts are only looking at one man.<\/p>\n

Indeed, he reports<\/a> Real Madrid star Aurelien Tchouameni is a genuine target, and the only target United are focused on in Spain.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnited understand that he might be gettable. My understanding for a couple of months has been it is possible. He\u2019s the only player in Spain who United have been looking at, to my knowledge.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tchouameni is reportedly valued at \u00a370m by Madrid, having played 29 times in La Liga this season and a further 13 in the Champions League.<\/p>\n

United want a marquee signing to mark their return to Europe’s elite competition, and signing a France international who has already lifted club football’s biggest crown would certainly fit the bill.<\/p>\n
