{"id":418474,"date":"2026-04-26T13:40:09","date_gmt":"2026-04-26T13:40:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/418474\/"},"modified":"2026-04-26T13:40:09","modified_gmt":"2026-04-26T13:40:09","slug":"gaa-inter-firms-longford-gardai-on-winning-team-through-to-all-ireland-final","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/418474\/","title":{"rendered":"GAA Inter Firms: Longford Garda\u00ed on winning team through to All-Ireland final"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;The only time to be ahead is at the final whistle,\u201d as Brian Cody once famously said, and the Roscommon Garda team ensured just that with a commanding performance in Cavan last week, one that powered them straight into the All-Ireland Intermediate final following an emphatic win over MTM Engineering of Armagh.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking following the win, team coach and Longford-based Garda Conor Foley assessed the panel&#8217;s chances in this week&#8217;s upcoming All Ireland. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We\u2019re really looking forward to the final, and if the lads perform like they\u2019re capable off, we\u2019ll have a right good chance,&#8221; he said. &#8220;This group of lads are quite experienced; they&#8217;re fine footballers so we&#8217;ll do our best and hopefully come out on the right side of the result.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/gardaf-1777055255518.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1353\" height=\"1485\"\/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The referee\u00a0on the evening was Longford&#8217;s David Reynolds. Pic by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/profile.php?id=61583376053653\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Inter-Firms GAA Connaught<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The foundation for the Garda victory was laid in an impressive first-half performance, where they struck four goals. <\/p>\n<p>Three of those goals came from Tiernan Murphy, the first arriving inside the opening 40 seconds. <\/p>\n<p>Although the game began in open fashion, MTM Engineering were left to rue their missed chances, hitting four wides within the first eight minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Past Report:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.longfordleader.ie\/news\/home\/2059968\/gaa-inter-firms-longford-gardais-all-ireland-semi-final-rescheduled-amid-fuel-crisis.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Inter-firms All-Ireland semi-final date confirmed: Longford Garda\u00ed set to play Ulster champions<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The missed wides were to prove costly for Armagh as Roscommon&#8217;s Tiernan Murphy went on to secure his second goal on the nine minute mark following excellent build-up play from club mate Shane O\u2019Malley.<\/p>\n<p>Points from Paul Mannion and Darragh Hussey stretched the Garda lead to eight by the 12th minute.<\/p>\n<p>Roscommon Garda were firmly in control across the field with their vigilant defence swiftly closing off MTM Engineering\u2019s lines of attack.
