Prince Louis turned 8 years old on April 23, and his parents Prince William and Kate Middleton celebrated, as they often do, by sharing a new photo of their son.<\/p>\n

In a special treat, they also included never-before-seen video footage of Louis on vacation earlier this month with his family.<\/p>\n

The photographer behind both the photo and the video, Matt Porteous, later shared a candid outtake from the shoot on his own Instagram.<\/p>\n

To celebrate Prince Louis<\/a> turning 8 years old on April 23, Prince William<\/a> and Kate Middleton<\/a> released not only a new photo of their youngest child but also a video filled with never-before-seen footage of him.<\/p>\n

The photo<\/a> and the video<\/a>\u2014both shot while the Wales family of five was on vacation in Cornwall earlier this month\u2014were taken by Matt Porteous, who has become a trusted favorite of the Prince and Princess of Wales. To mark Louis\u2019s birthday, Porteous shared a candid outtake on his own Instagram <\/a>of the young royal.<\/p>\n

The image shows Louis smiling widely at the camera as he looks to have just gotten out of the water, wearing a wetsuit and all. \u201cHappy 8th birthday, Louis\ud83d\ude0e\u2764\ufe0f,\u201d Porteous captioned the happy photo.<\/p>\n

Porteous has photographed the Prince and Princess of Wales, Prince George<\/a>, Princess Charlotte<\/a>, and Louis for numerous occasions over the years, ranging from birthdays to Christmas card portraits to Mother\u2019s Day images.<\/p>\n

He was also the photographer behind the lens of the first photo the Princess of Wales released<\/a> after she announced she\u2019d been diagnosed with cancer in 2024. Porteous wrote on Instagram of the photo\u2014which showed Kate standing in front of a tree\u2014\u201cI am deeply honored and grateful to have had the opportunity to capture such a special moment.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThey are a very beautiful family, very caring, and very thoughtful,\u201d Porteous told Hello!<\/a> of the family of five. \u201cI feel the pressure when I am on those shoots. The first time definitely, the second time\u2026now it\u2019s less pressure. But there is pressure in every job.\u201d<\/p>\n

Of Louis, \u201cHe\u2019s a cheeky monkey\u2014a typical third child,\u201d someone who knows the family previously told People<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s nice that the world got to see him enjoying himself.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kate has previously spoken about how she\u2019s raising George, Charlotte, and Louis to honor their unique personality traits. Speaking to Dame Kelly Holmes, a record-setting Olympian, in 2023, Holmes said (per People<\/a>), \u201cI asked her, \u2018You\u2019ve got three children\u2014do you see different traits in them?\u2019 And she said, \u2018Oh yes!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cShe said that\u2019s the thing\u2014learning how to handle the different traits and different needs and abilities even with three young children,\u201d Holmes said.<\/p>\n

William and Kate are both \u201cvery conscious of the different destinies awaiting their three children,\u201d royal historian Robert Lacey told People<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs royal parents, both Kate and William have focused on\u2026working to ensure that all three of their children enjoy the peaceful childhood that eluded William and Harry,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
