I\u2019m an executive producer on the show, so I\u2019m involved in all of it. We talk with the writers, and Dan [Erickson], all the time. I know everything about what\u2019s going on. [As an actor] I like having as much information as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tJust like the whole world, he\u2019s more than ready for Season 3.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s going to be great. There\u2019re so many surprises. I can\u2019t wait to shoot it,\u201d he said. As previously announced, <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/ben-stiller\/\" id=\"auto-tag_ben-stiller\" data-tag=\"ben-stiller\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ben Stiller<\/a> won\u2019t be directing this time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cBen is still very involved in the show. It\u2019s going to be great. You know, it\u2019s been over two years since we finished shooting Season 2. We\u2019re all anxious to get back. We miss each other.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tScott, who will be receiving the Canal+ Icon Award at <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/canneseries\/\" id=\"auto-tag_canneseries\" data-tag=\"canneseries\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Canneseries<\/a> this week, admitted he really, really wanted the role.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cI don\u2019t know if I would categorize it as a battle, but I certainly had to prove I could do it. Which makes sense: It was a big show, a big investment for Apple, so they needed to see that,\u201d he recalled.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s an incredible role in an incredible world. It\u2019s everything I\u2019d always wanted to do. When I read the script, first of all, I thought: \u2018I probably won\u2019t get this job. But if I do, if I\u2019m able to land this, it will be because I\u2019ve been earning this over the last 30 years. The opportunity to be considered for something like this and a role where you get to explore different sides of this person.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tHe added: \u201cHappily, I auditioned only once. The more you do it, the more you can screw it up.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tWhen \u201cParks and Recreation\u201d ended, he wanted to find something \u201ca little more dramatic.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cI just wanted to change it up, and I had trouble being considered for anything that wasn\u2019t comedic. I really sought out \u2018Big Little Lies,\u2019 for example \u2013 that was something I really wanted to do. I wanted to work with Reese Witherspoon and all those actors, and Jean-Marc Vall\u00e9e. But I really had to campaign for that and audition a few times, and prove to them I could do something that wasn\u2019t comedic.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cSeverance\u201d \u201cfelt like a full meal,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cIt felt like a complicated character and a complicated world \u2013 and an adventure. Everything I\u2019d done up to that point, those were all things that fulfilled me. But this felt like more of a culmination.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIt took him a while to figure out how to portray the infamous scenes of transition.\u00a0\u201cSwitching from one thing to another, in an elevator, could be really corny. Ben had this \u2018elevator set\u2019 he would keep off to the side, so whenever we had a few minutes, we could go over and practice, and try to see how that transformation would occur.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cWe must have done it hundreds of times before we landed on something that worked. I think it was Ben who came up with our eyes fluttering a bit. Oh man, I\u2019m sure I did a bunch of stuff that was ridiculous.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tWith many questions unanswered, \u201cSeverance\u201d has quickly developed a \u201cTwin Peaks\u201d-like cult following.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cI love \u2018Twin Peaks\u2019 so much and I love that people keep discovering it over and over again. I don\u2019t know if [\u2018Severance\u2019] will live in culture and be remembered like that, but I agree \u2013 there\u2019s a lot of power in not knowing.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cSomething we\u2019re always trying to do on the show is retain an element of mystery. I loved the way \u2018The Sopranos\u2019 ended. I was frustrated by it, but it was brilliant and I still haven\u2019t figured it out. I love it not only in TV shows or movies, but I like it in music. I\u2019ve always loved bands that wouldn\u2019t tell you everything about how music was made and who made it. I like when there\u2019s a place for my imagination to reach out and meet the work.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tScott doesn\u2019t worry about being typecast again post-\u201cSeverance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cSomething that\u2019s good with a role like Mark is that I\u2019m not sure what aspect of it would pin me down into being typecast. And even if I\u2019m, it would be completely worth it, because I love the show so much.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tHe recently made horror film \u201cHokum.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s really scary. I think with horror movies, just as a fan and as someone who participates in them sometimes, I feel like the criteria is it should be a good movie first and a good horror movie second. It should be able to stand on its own as a character, as an interesting character, an interesting story. And then the horror elements are almost a bonus, you know,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s been a while since I\u2019ve been a lead in something that\u2019s come out in movie theaters. And I love it. It\u2019s what made me want to do this in the first place: sitting in a dark room with a bunch of strangers and watching something that really moves you or gets you excited.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cSeverance\u201d moves people as well.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u2018When the show first came out, we were still emerging from the pandemic. People were slowly returning to the office or working from home, and this new work-life balance felt strange for everyone. I think the show evoked those feelings,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cWith something that\u2019s as high-concept as \u2018Severance,\u2019 there has to be an emotional element to connect to, and there have to be characters to connect to. Otherwise, it just becomes something that\u2019s interesting, but isn\u2019t emotionally engaging.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tHe added: \u201cIf you were presented with this technology, would you do this? Once you really consider that question, you start thinking about your life in a certain way, and it sets you on an interesting journey.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Adam Scott already knows the ending of \u201cSeverance.\u201d \u201cOh Yes.
