Proposal is part of broader attempt by tourism chiefs to move away from \u2018alcohol-led experiences\u2019\n<\/p>\n

The Giant, more than 30 metres tall, is described as a \u201cbreathtaking fusion of art, imagination, technology and storytelling\u201d.<\/p>\n

A similar giant is expected to be unveiled in Las \u00adVegas this autumn.<\/p>\n

Eric Fraad, director of development at the Dublin-based Giant Company, said a Dublin version could be in place within 12 months of the Vegas launch.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s something spectacular and iconic,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Fraad compared its potential to the London Eye and similar attractions in Singapore and Dubai.<\/p>\n

It will cost about \u20ac35m, and Fraad said the project was being supported by Irish and international investors.<\/p>\n

These include entertainment entrepreneur Paddy Dunning of the Irish Rock\u2019n\u2019Roll Museum and the National Wax Museum.<\/p>\n

A feasibility study, carried out by PwC and supported by Dublin City Council and Enterprise Ireland, highlighted the need for \u201ccompelling new reasons\u201d to visit the capital.<\/p>\n

It said the current tourism offering is \u201ctoo narrow\u201d and \u201cheavily focused on museums, heritage and alcohol-led experiences\u201d, with \u201climited appeal for families, younger visitors and repeat tourists\u201d.<\/p>\n

There is a \u201cclear gap in family-friendly attractions\u201d, and this proposal would help rebalance Dublin away from an over-reliance on pubs and distilleries.<\/p>\n

The study examined how the proposal would work in Dublin, and looked at key sites within the city capable of housing The Giant, with George\u2019s Dock in the IFSC identified as a suitable location.<\/p>\n

The study said the statue would support the rejuvenation of the north inner city by increasing footfall, supporting local businesses and creating new jobs and training opportunities.<\/p>\n

Smithfield was another potential location, while D\u00fan Laoghaire and Dublin Port were seen as less attractive options.<\/p>\n

The surface of the statue would be made up of millions of programm\u00adable LED pixels, allowing people to be digitally scanned or mapped on to it. It means well-known people or even visitors could be scanned and displayed on it.<\/p>\n

Admission prices are seen as a key revenue driver for the project.<\/p>\n

The feasibility assessment ass\u00adumed prices could be set at about \u20ac25 for adults or \u20ac20 on average for a ticket when concessions for families, students and pensioners are considered.<\/p>\n
