{"id":420428,"date":"2026-04-27T19:08:09","date_gmt":"2026-04-27T19:08:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/420428\/"},"modified":"2026-04-27T19:08:09","modified_gmt":"2026-04-27T19:08:09","slug":"govt-to-withdraw-tourist-accommodation-housing-ukrainians","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/420428\/","title":{"rendered":"Govt to withdraw tourist accommodation housing Ukrainians"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Government is to withdraw tourist and commercial accommodation currently housing up to 16,000 people from Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>Minister for Justice Jim O&#8217;Callaghan secured agreement on this issue this afternoon at the Cabinet Committee on Justice, Migration and Social Affairs.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rte.ie\/news\/ireland\/2026\/0319\/1564145-ukraine-accommodation-dail\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">The move had recently been flagged by Minister of State for Migration Colm Brophy.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>It was agreed to withdraw State-contracted commercial accommodation to pre-March 2024 residents, with the exception of those highly vulnerable and those with barriers to independence.<\/p>\n<p>The process will begin in August on a phased basis over a six-month period.<\/p>\n<p>People will be afforded a minimum of three months&#8217; notice of this change.<\/p>\n<p>The properties will be returned to tourism and potentially the private rental sector.<\/p>\n<p>It was also agreed to wind down the \u20ac600 Accommodation Recognition Payment Scheme in the last four months of this year and to end it next March.<\/p>\n<p>A reduction to \u20ac400 could be introduced in September and this will affect around 42,000 people in hosted accommodation.<\/p>\n<p>The Government will work with the EU on the development of a Voluntary Return and Reintegration Programme to Ukraine with a probable commencement of March 2027.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Government is to withdraw tourist and commercial accommodation currently housing up to 16,000 people from Ukraine.
